0.2.0 - which I've taken to calling the "Fiends and Firearms Update" - is out! While there's not any maps in this version (I have 3 of the 5 for part 2 done), I did put an effort into converting each of the doom monsters into new, enhanced variants for you to have fun with. I'm not going to spoil everything, here's a list of some things to look out for!

All enemies have a type - Grunts, Beast, Armored or Noblity.'

  • Grunt enemies are imps, former humans etc. They are weak and don't resist any kinds of weapons.
  • Beasts are non-humanoid demons - cacodemons, pinkies, and the like. Their hellish origins make them resistant to fire-based weaponry, but have no armor and shotguns turn them into mincemeat.
  • Armored enemies are for the most part former marines - you'll run into them in the wad itself, but since they are added via boom you'll need to enable their spawns in the options. Their body armor makes them shrug off shotguns, but bullets punch right through it.
  • Nobility are anything that would count as a boss enemy. Barons, Cyberdemons, and Archviles are all in this class. Their magic allows them to make bullets nothing more than an annoyance, but immense amounts of heat can overcome even their demonic shields

As for some specific demons to keep an eye out for:

  • Pain elementals are now limited to spawning six lost souls each. Once they run out, they'll charge headlong at the player, and upon colliding with a surface, or your face, explode in a final, fiery demise, obliterating anything in the surrounding area.

  • Cyberdemons have some new tricks - having embraced their demonic heratage, they now can breathe fire upon any mortals who venture too close - CQC at your own risk!

Flame on!

  • Barons of hell now can use their rank to summon imps to aid them in battle, and pinkies now go into a berserk rage after receiving too much damage.

But it wouldn't be fair of me to send you up against all that without the proper gear, so I'm glad to inform you that all of doom's guns and armors have also been converted, including 3 new bfg variants!

  • The plasma rifle is now the UAC fireball launchher, dealing huge amounts of damage in a radius - and no self damage! It's also big enough to soak up a projectile for you, so you can use them as a shield if you're clever.

I CAST FIREBALL

  • The first BFG slot gun is the excommunicator volley gun, a series of 7 miniature railguns bundled into a single man-portable armament. It does bonus damage against both beasts and armored enemies, making it a versatile choice regardless of the map.

  • The second is the "Kolobok" acid delivery system, which is a fancy term for "grenade launcher that shoots vials of acid." Excels in both horde clearing and against nobility or armor.

  • And lastly, we have the H.E.L.A (High Energy Laser Array)/ I could go on about how it's best against beasts and nobility, but honestly? It makes everything equally dead. Nothing that can be killed survives a full 200 cells from this thing.

For when you're just sick of hell's shit.

Lastly, armor has undergone a minor rework.

  • Green armor is balanced, taking half of all damage.
  • Blue armor is bullet-resistant, blocking 80% of the damage from stuff like shotguns etc, but only 20% of demon fire.
  • The radsuit now renders you immune to all demon fire attacks, and flamer self damage, but bullets pass right through it.
  • Attacks such as melee hits, archvile magic, and cyberdemon rockets ignore armor, for obvious reasons.

Also, options! Finding the wad too easy or too hard? Mapset unplayable due to how housecleaning changes archviles? Want to use your favorite bfg? Just want to drown the world in a sea of revenants? Well, we've got accessability options for it! (Must view full zdoom menu to change.)

I'll post a full changelog soon-ish.
