The first public beta version of Rival-Species is released, so what do the team do now? Get cracking on the next version of course! To prove that the team members are continuing to be their normal workaholic selves, there have been a number of updates since the last release, which, I must say, went swimmingly, thanks a lot for the great response.

Despite the usual problems associated with any Beta 1 release, the team have been provided with plenty of interesting ideas and suggestions from the new players, and planning is under way to remedy some of the more problematic issues.

Firstly I must mention two patches recently released, 1.0.0.1, which fixes some server instability issues, and 1.0.0.2, which will allow those who want to use Cheating-Death with RS to do so, at the cost of differently patterned Eldar. I should add that neither of these patches are required to play RS, the first being a server patch only, and the second an optional download.

Along with these fixes, our ever expanding team welcomes two new members, Jonas: a sound technician, and Botchiball as a modeller. Both have already produced some excellent work, with two of Botchiball’s models, an Eldar Jetbike and a Space Marine Rhino (Armoured Personnel Carrier).

The more established members of the team are also busy, Bahl has completed the modelling and skinning of the spectacular World Eater’s Dreadnought, a render of which can be seen on the Rival-Species website; www.rivalspecies.com .
Along with this, Obiwan and Stefano completed their impressive Cadian Imperial Guardsman, and Ork models, respectively, which are to be included in the Beta 2 release.

And finally, in a very important piece of news for anyone considering hosting an RS server, the first Linux Server version of Rival-Species is now available from a number of mirrors on the Rival-Species website, with the aforementioned updates included. Have fun!
