War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. War of the Silmarils features many new unique factions, each complete with a roster of units, a completely new campaign map of Beleriand and the lands to the North, and much more. So if you're one of the many who have been enthralled by Tolkien's mystical world, this is a mod to watch!

Great the deeply hewn Naugrim mansions of Belegost or Gabigathol, the Great City, were. By the most skilled Dwarven masons these halls were carved out of the stone of Ered Luin, the Blue Mountains. Therein, within these vast halls, the folk of Belegost dwelt, and had their smithies that produced the tools of war and peace. There was great friendship, for a while, between the Sindar and the Naugrim of Belegost, for did not Azaghal, King of Belegost, send his masons to carve out the Elven fastness of Menegroth and did not the smiths of the Naugrim of Belegost fashion great many of the axes and the fine hauberks of mail that the warriors of Thingol bore? But their friendship was not reserved merely to this kindred of Elves, for between the Noldor and the Naugrim of Belegost there too was a friendship, for Maehdros saved the life of Azaghal. This act was repayed with an alliance between the Noldor and Naugrim of Belegost, a friendship that was in part transferred into the Second Age.

Great and well trained the hosts of Belegost are, but in splendour and skill the Guards of Belegost, the household guards of King Azaghal, are unsurpassed within their folk and even the greatness of some of the Eldar in combat do they dwarf. These dedicated elite warriors have all taken oaths to protect their folk and King and will fight until they can no more. Helms of iron with hideous masks they bear upon their heads, so terrifying to behold that none save the most stout, or foolish, orcs would look upon them in battle and fight them. The finest mail hauberks and shields they are fitted with, fashioned by the finest of the smiths of Belegost, many of which would even produce things that rival the lesser works of Telchar the Smith. Great one-handed axes they wield, of a make no longer seen by the Third Age, capable of piercing even dragon scales. Like any of the Naugrim they are stout beyond measure, so hardy even, that due to their finely crafted armour and their accustomation to the heat of their forges, that they would not shrink away or wither in a torrent of dragon fire.
