Hey DJ! It does look very similar to a service revolver holster, although the service revolver holster does have a more severe curve if you will. Here are some links.

gee, Cheers mate! but what was the actually revolver that went with it? was it British design or Yank?
(and yes I say Yank cause I'm bloody Australian and we can give Yanks a head-start in a Slang race and still win!!!)

Well, this particular holster housed a 1911. And I would only assume that it is a yank design, because it was manufactured in the us and used by tvhe us military. Hope all is well in Australia haha.
