IIRC the launcher allows you to totally customize what units a player gets at the start based on their faction, so this kind of visual design (flat non-distinct factionless) is not really necessary anymore.
IMO the way TS traditionally is set up with the MCV looking very GDI also makes sense anyway, to me it always seemed like the technology is developed and pioneered by GDI, and stolen by Nod, in the same way that the Harvester technology is pioneered by Nod, and copied by GDI.

New one kinda looks like it's build of Legos. Too much Blocky.
