This is war is an all out war scenario that plays itself out on the island of Skira. As you embark on your journey, you can recruit soldiers into your squad and approach your objectives in any way you choose. This also includes a hotkey system and command system giving you dynamic objectives to accomplish throughout the entire game.
This mod has been quite an eye opener. Codemasters should have done something like this from the beginning. With the likes of Battlefield around goodness knows why they chose to cut everything down like they did. This mod shows that they have a good engine there but they never used it properly. It might not look the best but it more than makes up for that by keeping a high frame rate even with lots of the AI in the game. Try running the likes of ArmA with lots of AI, you'll be lucky to keep a ~20 frame rate. On my machine this ran consistently at 35. tvig0r0us has done an amazing job here showing the gaping gap in the market that there is for this kind of game. On the one hand, with the very good Battlefield 2 which is fun but not tactical, or semi-tactical, but with an AI that never really follows commands (much more tactical in MP of course). On the other hand we have games like ArmA 3 which has a steep learning curve, does have full tactical and strategic command but is a pig to run both with usability and with the high hardware demands. What This is War also shows is obvious game play "usability" to the extent that I'm left scratching my head as to why the game companies have not already done something like this (unless I'm missing some game out there). Yes, why can't I go around the Battlefield and recruit soldiers into custom squads ? It suddenly all makes sense.
