I hope you know that horses were not used for fighting at that era. The warlords and wealthier warriors went into battle with chairots, but mounted warfare was very uncommon in that time.

I think we're talking about gameplay here.

Not true at all. Plenty of evidence suggests that horses were used for warfare, particularly in places like Thrace, which provided allied soldiers for the Trojan war. It's far more likely, in fact, that the Iliad is anachronistic, and that chariots weren't often used in battle during the time of the Trojan war. Certainly, their influence had declined considerably by this point.

I didn't said that they were used in combat; I said they went into battle on them. I think I know what you're talking about the Thrachian horses: Rhessos (or named sth like this) was a trachian prince who come to aid the trojans (according to the Ilias) and he brought some noble steed with him (still no evidence for mounted warfare, they were still most probably for chairots) The main reasons that there were no horsemen in Greece in the ilionid period: no mentions of them, no artifacts found with paintings about horsemen, etc, etc. I wonder what is "plenty of evidence" for you.

Homer's Iliad is the only evidence for chariots at all being used for warfare in the time of the Trojan war, and represents our written only source for how they were used. However, it was written at least 400 years after the events of the Trojan war, and contained a number of glaring historical innaccuracies itself (e.g. bronze-age funerary rites). While chariots continued to be used for warfare transportation in the bronze-age world, they were not heavily in use in Northern Anatolia (the site of Troy) and the terrain in Greece was not suited to them. Indeed, one of Hector's epithets is hippodamos (breaker of horses) which is an indicator the horse's role in battle, as one does not traditionally break horses for charioteering. The only remaining evidence we have for chariots in the bronze age is archaeological. As such, ancient depictions of bronze-age warfare do include men on horseback, albeit rarely, and more eastern than western (there exists at least one krater showing a horseman and infantryman from Anatolia, for example.) However, there are far fewer contemporary depictions of chariot warfare, and most of the evidence suggests warfare was predominantly on foot. However, evidence for mounted warriors exists (c.f. the existence of Penthesilea in the Epic Cycle's 'Little Iliad'), and it's simply not accurate to suggest an either/or on the status of horses in the ancient world. The Trojan war saw an emergence of a cavalry class, and the demise in warfare (not just combat) of the chariot after the disastrous battle of Kadesh

Its all good guys. Remember this is a game, not a history book. I understand and respect the whole historically accurate stuff but once again this is a game. There is going to be mounted warfare. There won't be a lot of it but it will be there. Warfare will mostly be on foot. Horses will be somewhat expensive in shops.

top stuff, and I'm really excited for it - part of the appeal of a mod like this is it gets people talking and excited about this period of history, which is great :)

I agree, especially since it is a time period in history that hasn't been explored too much, but then again, how can it be if there are so few documents and sources that talk about that time period. Besides the few sources that are available, we can only guess...
