Introduction
Many of you are probably aware of an amazing puzzle mod called "The Trap". This modification is a real masterpiece. Going through it I, and probably many of you, spent a lot of time scratching our head. Each chamber has a more detailed and complicated puzzle, but the author does not forget about the plot.
The game has a mystic atmosphere which keeps you wondering and thinking about its meaning. Get to the end and all the secrets will be revealed, but don't get distracted by food or sleep!
Remember friends, Reaktor, the creator of this mod, left modmaking. I am sure he had his reasons and we have no right to condemn him for them. But after so many years of hearing nothing except Reaktor is `out of business, the news that I heard shocked me!
At first I thought it was a joke. He announced a major upgrade for his mod. Of course, all this makes me very happy. The changes are quite extensive, from design to new levels, including a new soundtrack, which I managed to listen to.
At the request of the author, I am writing this preview ...
The author tries to convey the atmosphere, storyline and puzzles with the help of music.
Our hero, Reaktor, judging by his own statements - is a great music lover. The whole soundtrack has been created by him and is a mixture of genres such as Dubstep, Ambient, EBM and IDM. Some tracks can be considered Hardcore.
I will not be sparing words, but the music, like the mod is superb! It perfectly fits the atmosphere of The Trap.
Many of the tracks work quite well for simple listening, the music is awesome!
Here's what he said "The mod has undergone changes in almost everything, but especially the music. It will be completely my own soundtrack, something similar to Dubstep mix with IDM. I have been working for three years to produce its own style, and have written more than 6 albums worth of tracks. It only remained for me to choose the most appropriate tracks for the mod and redo them". - Reaktor.
The entire soundtrack, as I said, is written in the style of Ambient and consists of 18 tracks. I want to say that the titles of the tracks are almost perfect.
Intro
As the name implies, this track will be used at the start of the mod, or in the game menu. The Track is rather short, but it is something that makes one think of an interesting beginning. To draw an analogy, it is very similar to the original track Half-Life: Intro.
The Trap (Dubstep Mix)
Apparently, this is the main track. The composition is constructed very nicely and clearly conveys the whole theme of the modification. It is likely to be used at the most intense moments of the modification, such as when you enter into the alternative areas or in the end. It has been made in the style of the movie "Saw."
Mechanical Dub
This is a mystical track, which fades out with soft clicking and has distorted waves with strong bass, with a fast-growing melody. It's similar to the track "The Trap".
Hound Slasher
Quite an interesting track. It reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on it. The track gives me the feeling of manifest passion, but at the same time, mysticism is also present.
Watch Your Step
This is an eerie track and I wanted it to end as soon as possible. The author has achieved what he wanted, the track leads to the player's horror. And the title is aptly named, as it hints at possible difficulties and surprises.
Angry
Seeing the title, I immediately thought that the track would have the atmosphere of a chase. And I was right. It perfectly conveys a sense of pace, a sense of experience disrupted by proceedings and vice versa. The pressure on the player increases with volume of the bass.
In the middle of the track it feels as though it is mocking the player, suggesting to him, "You still will not pass this test." When listening to this track the feeling of being spied on never left me.
$1,000,000
Again, looking at the title it is not difficult to guess what Reaktor is aiming for. I will not dwell on it. Frankly, it did not impress me at all. Perhaps, when integrated into the game, it will be a different experience, but I still feel he did not succeed in communicating what he wanted.
Cookies!
This is a funny song. This wonderful piece of music can be heard in one of the new secret rooms. The idea popped into my head that the secret room will match the style of the track: humorous, light-hearted, fun and upbeat.
Scumbox # 1
What we have here is a tense track. Interestingly enough though, I don't quite understand why the sounds were integrated into it. It's similar to cutting phrases from characters in Japanese animation - anime. What are they? I do not know, but in my opinion they ruined the seriousness and intensity of the track.
Scumbox # 2
This track blew my mind. Surely, Reaktor thought about the best way to confuse the player. This track is excellent, written specifically for the purpose for which it is intended.
Scumbox # 3
Energetic, lively and humorous at the same time is how I would describe this track. I have nothing more to say about it as it is better to listen to it yourself.
Radioactive
When you listen to this track you immediately think of Opposing Force. It feels like the floor is about to collapse, and drop you into a room filled with radiation. Tense, atmospheric, energetic.
Death Ray
Excellent, atmospheric track! The tension stays with the track until the very end. "Death Ray" pursues its prey - you the player. The bass is very pleasing, and even reminded me of some moments from the DooM!
Emptiness
This composition reminds me of the original track from Half-Life 2, which was played in the "Channels" chapter. Emptiness is the translated title of this track and is reminiscent of an echo or a vacuum into which the palyer has been put.
On The Other Side
This track is written in the same style as the Intro. Something similar to a "Ravenholm" style, where you need to be vigilant. It's an atmospheric track, presaging danger ahead.
No Chance
Sorry, but this is a horrifying track. In the sense that it conveys horror. In fact, the track is great and the author has achieved what he wanted - namely, to intimidate players.
No Choice
The track, the name and the content are similar to the previous one, No Chance. For some reason he liked this even more.
Number One Hit
Believe it or not, this track is my favorite. I like it so much I would set it as my ringtone or alarm call. I just hope Reaktor doesn't take offense?: D) Must listen to it!!
In conclusion
I want to say that Reaktor is not only an avid music fan, but a good composer. His thirst for music certainly helped him more than once. Of course, like any piece of work, there are elements you won't like (eg, strange sounds from Scumbox # 1 or not at all clear tracks like $1 million ), but they are forgivable.
I am looking forward to the moment when I hear these tracks in the game. Maybe then I'll change my opinion for some of the compositions, in fact I have tried to imagine how they will be used.
I want to highlight tracks that I particularly and these are: Number One Hit, Death Ray and Hound Slasher. I advise everyone to listen to this soundtrack because, like I said, it is ideal for normal listening.
I'm sorry, but pretty bad english.. did you used Google Translator?
And you helped me?
Have you ever asked?
What I was saying is that the english was bad, but didn't meant it's your fault, since it's not your native language, and also, it isn't my language too.
This has now been edited to have better English, although it has been kept as close to the original as possible.
It has also been formatted properly.
