This mod's main emphasis is on survival horror. The storyline is changed. The 'cheesy' aspects are removed. Many game mechanics are fixed and new ones are added. It uses Gary's mod as a base.

(WARNING - This release is very buggy and unstable. The following update will correct most problems people are experiencing) First demo release. Read the readme included. The mod only changes levels 1-4 (Though a lot of Gary's changes are throughout all levels). But the core changes, engine, sounds, textures, etc. are all still present.

How do I Install this?
The Readme wasn't very helpful.
Go to your TheThing directory, backup the existing "data" folder (Just rename it to "data old" or something), then move the files from the .rar to the TheThing directory, then launch the new .exe to play the mod.

Where do I launch the new .exe? I tried the desktop and I got an error and I tried the bin and it freezes when I press normal when I start new game
nvm I launched the default exe and it loads but no sounds then it crashes in gameplay and when I launch mod exe it crashes at the choosing difficulty

Try putting it in the main directory.
And you must use the new .exe, since all the engine changes and what-not are built into the .exe
Try running as administrator, compatibility mode, etc.
Putting in the new .exe in the bin with the default right? Then launching it? Cause it plays the sound as I try to choose difficulty but nothing happens I just sit on the menu.
rename it to "thething.exe" and leave it in the main directory, not "bin", and try there.
If it crashes or freezes, try and minimize the game and see if it gives you an error, or something.
You could also try running as administrator, compatibility mode.
Can't you just take a snapshot of what the folder should look like? It would be so much easier.
i got it to play.. however at the point of ending video for lvl 1 it has the "bing" suond like a error. i hit ok as i cant see a error, then it goes to load lvl 2 but all i get is a black screen... :/

i have changed the name to thething for the .exe
i replaced the whole data folder with yours as well.
tried compatibility with windows xp sp2 as well.

i got it working however loading saved games DOES NOT WORK... i get a runtime error..
so far i have try compatibility and admin, and it doesnt work, i get stuck on the bing sound like when i choose the difficulty

So I keep running into a lot of issues while I play and id like to know if I did something wrong. Or if this is just issues with the mod. If anyone can tell me their opinions or fixes for this please let me know.
1: Team members constantly attack each other on sight almost every time I meet a new one until they kill half the team. (This is the most game breaking one)
2: Tons of cut scenes play that are supposed to show enemies spawning but the enemies never show up in or after the scene. Most of the levels I have played are entirely empty of enemies almost except a stray 1-3 enemies.
3: Randomly I fail levels because it says all my engineers are dead even though they are clearly alive.
4: My mouse arrow is a huge white block
Change the name of TheThing-Continuity.exe in TheThing.exe, compatibility and admin, this should work.
But, how to change the resolution? I dont have any video options except for brightness but a lot of stairs in the grafic.
And, my cursor is also a white block..
Apart from that, mod is nice, thx for your effort. An update would be soo nice:)

hi, I became interested in this continuity mod a year ago and that 's how long I haven 't installed it and when loading a level, a black screen appears is this normal?

do the same thing as I wrote above
1.drop the data folder and the TheThing-Continuity shortcut into the game folder and replace the files
2.rename the shortcut TheThing-Continuity to thething
3.run the game via thething shortcut in win xp sp3 compatibility mode and as administrator
and there will be no black screens, tested on a desktop PC and laptop, you installed the mod incorrectly.
