The concept has quite a story behind it and the work on it was caused by many contradictions between the book and movie lore.
The thing is though Dain Ironfoot is a mighty warrior in both book and movie versions, in the book he is described as a wise king of dwarves who does not rush into an open confrontation even with forces of evil. And it is in that sense his movie image differs massively as in the Battle of the Five Armies he looks more like a barbarian king both on outside and inside.
While we treat the legendary Peter Jackson and his team with outmost respect, we consider such choice to be wrong and cannot accept it, that is why we decided to do our best to make his image closer to the book one. Not only give the king of dwarves a worthy set of armor and highlight his might but also capture his great wisdom.
