TFS Remastered Announcement

Tactical Fleet Simulator (TFS) has always largely been a one-man project. While I have had a few co-developers along the way (mainly for art assets), the lion’s share of the grunt work has always been done by one person. "Remastering" Tactical Fleet Simulator (TFS) is a very time-consuming process due to the changes Gearbox made to the game engine and incomplete mod support. Many assets and scripts have to be recreated from scratch. From art assets like in-game ship icons to writing AI scripts for CPU players to creating / recreating ship HODs, the development is a massive undertaking – especially for a single person. These two factors - the amount of work and time required, and the incomplete / truncated support for mods and editing - is what put me off from working on this project since the HW Remastered's initial release.

I am therefore opening a Ko-Fi page to support this project: I decided on this over Patreon as it allows one-time and recurring donations; either are welcome. This is purely voluntary and development of the mod won’t be contingent upon donations – it’s a voluntary way for supporters and those who appreciate the work that went into both TFS Classic and TFS Remastered to show their appreciation.

Public Beta Release

Depending on the amount of interest in the project, a public beta release will be available on Steam built on Gearbox's v2.205 patch by the end of June or early July.

The initial public beta release would aim to have most Vaygr and Hiigaran ships working in-game, most of the tech tree complete, several new maps, and working AI that can make use of most the new ships.

Optimization, ship balance, revamping the tech & research tree, and implementing all the new Homeworld Remastered script functions (for attack styles, strike groups, weapon accuracy, etc.), new ships (to replace certain older and badly-aging kitbash models) will be a longer-term, more gradual process, of development.

TFS Remastered should be seen as a successor to TFS Classic as opposed to a simple conversion/port. Not every ship will be identical in role and balance to their TFS Classic counterparts, and as new Remastered functions are gradually added, there will be new and expanded gameplay options.

Ko-Fi Support

If you are a fan of TFS Classic and want to see the mod in Homeworld Remastered, or just want to show appreciation for all the time and effort that went into developing TFS, then please consider donating on the project's Ko-Fi page:

Expect more articles detailing the entire concept behind TFS, how new HW Remastered functions and scripts will be incorporated into the mod, and more in the near future.
