Star Wars Total war is the most Creative use in a mod I have known for the rome total war engine. it departs from the mainstay of RTW vannila's melee battles in a mesh of units that dont move to ranged units that have to constantly jostle and reposition to effciently attack the enemy. each faction has a unique play style instead of greeks have phalenxes and romans have legions. to win a battle you need to think from when you start about how you deploy your units to where and when to try to rout the enemy from. you want to feel like your playing a differnt game with the rome total war engine download this mod, want a experience just vaguely dissimilar to vanillia RTW go elsewhere. simple as that.

Yeah, basically copy the files I'll list into a folder named after the initals of your mod then you create a shortcut to the romwTW.exe with -show_err -mod:BLAH at the end of the shortcut if the folder your mod is in is called blah. the files you'll need to copy from the data folder into the mod data folder are:
the world folder (allows custom battles to work)
descr_effects_arrow_trail.txt (creates projectile effects)
descr_projectile_new.txt (the stuff the units can fire like bullets)
descr_model_battle.txt (store of game models)
descr_sounds_units_fire.txt (sounds that units make when fireing)
export_descr_unit.txt (list of units in game eg panzers)
export_descr_unit_enums.txt (list of units Info tags)
text/export_units.txt (unit information)

thats the least you'd need to do on the way to a WWII mod. let me know if it takes off, to make new units try reskinning old ones. if you can make five types of soldiers for two different factions eg, riflemen to flamethrower troops, create custom sounds, models, projectiles, unit cards and information I will help you. if you want the locations for tutorials on modding anything or aplications to change cirtain files send me a message and I'll find it for you within a couple of days.

best to start here Twcenter.net, just like I did.

good luck and remeber with modding, slow and steady wins the race.

These are some screenshots from the two different simulations I've run of the Battle of geonosis in the Star wars total war mod.
