Star Wars Rise of Hope is a mod that will be based on the early Empire and its fall against the Rebel Alliance and its following sucessor the New Republic.
I didn´t wanted to as I was going good with the mod, but with the last crashing bug I realized I couldn´t worked alone anymore.
I did had help from people like the Yuuzhan Vong mod team, Barlex, Jedi_Clone, etc., but the problem has always been my pretty pretty bad XML. I do have knowledge of it, but I´m bad at writing it seems.
So I´ll be looking for these help:
XML Writer:
While I can do some little XML, but I need someone who takes care of not screwing up like me.
Map designers:
I have some knowledge in this but I would prefer someone who can make better maps, I have Mrragger helping with maps as he creates the basic shape and then I add things.
Icon makers:
This one is something I would really aprecciate, I want someone who can make the icons look the same, I mean follow a style, not take a image from the internet and make it 50x50. No, I need someone who does a great work with these.
Infantry rigger(Not that I hope someone just to drop and tell me it will make all the job):
I work with the space, props, vehicles part of rigging, but something I will never be good with will be with infantry. If someone has any knowledge about these please tell me.
If you have any other speciality, I would like to hear it. But rigging things is my job.
Hope someones interests and wants to help me.
Thank you all :)
What kind of XML knowledge are you looking for? I can make custom GCs, do some basic story scripting for said GCs, new units (including heroes), new hardpoints, new planets, and new factions.
The GC and basic story could come handy in the future, I´m looking for someone who doesn´t screw up XML like me. So in short, someone who makes new units is what I´m looking for the most.
Oh, well new units are easy for me. Just tell me what role they need to fill and I'll get it done.
I would definitely recommend you use some sort of version control software (Perforce/GitHub) so that when your game starts crashing, you can revert your files back and figure out what started the crash. It has saved me many times during the dev of AotR. Also it helps to coordinate with other team members as they can always have the latest working files.
I can definitely help out with mapping as I am making a ton of custom land maps that I am willing to share. I'm sure I can also answer any questions regarding story/AI/XML that you may have.
If you are having XML problems I would suggest an XML editor, these can be very helpful for spotting mistakes like not closing off a tag or spelling a tag wrong. I personally use Xml Pad 3 as it is free, and tells me if I have a text error.
I would also recommend a version control software, they really can be very helpful and ensure that everyone is working with the most up to date files.
First thanks both of you, TOB and Wariscool, I just made a GitHub repository. I still need to figure out how it works but is there now.
-ThatOneBullet: Maps would be really aprecciated, it would come very useful when I start redoing the GC´s maps. If we come across with any problem I´ll be sure to ask ;)
-Wariscool: That´s exactly the same program I use but it never told me what error I had now :(
Well most XML is validated on the game loading, so you would know if XML was formatted wrong the moment your game tries to boot. The other two most common XML things that could crash on runtime are story missions (when you first load a GC) or a broken unit when it first spawns into battle.
That´s the problem I had, I tried to start the Equal Footing GC with both the Rebels and Empire and it crashed altought I didn´t modified any GC related XML. That´s very weird.
Isnt Delta the Infantry-Guy ? :D
So I would recommend him ;)
He is currently working on his own mod so be sure to ask him softly :P
Yes, I´ve been already in contact with him. He already agreed to help me in whatever I needed :)
Do you have a list of planets that need maps?
Well he's got a giant planet list in the articles section.
Indeed, there are 115 planets in that list. But take in mind that not all of them need 2 maps.
Which ones are finished?
Only the ones that were on the original game. That list was just created.
