Star Wars: Interregnum is an upcoming mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that builds off of the highly successful Enhanced 4X Mod. Fleeing the unknown terror that is chasing the Vasari, the factions of Sins of a Solar Empire stumble on a temporary wormhole that takes them to a galaxy far, far away. The sudden arrival of armadas with trillions of refugees and thousands of warships between the events of Episodes 5 & 6 forever alters the Star Wars universe and plunges the galaxy into an unprecedented period of chaos and violence. Begun, a new conflict has.
Following the Imperial occupation of Mandalore after the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians and their arms industry was limited to producing fairly light grade equipment, such as small arms, repulsor vehicles and starfighters. With the pacifist New Mandalorian government overthrown and a more militant public opinion following the Clone Wars, the Imperial administration was understandably considered that the same Mandalorian martial skills taught to Clone Troopers could be used to form a potent Rebellion against Imperial rule.
Despite this restriction, MandalMotors, the primary Starship Manufacturer on the planet, hoped to one day lobby its way out of the restrictions, and began to secretly work on a number of warship designs, the first and most developed of which was called the "Crusader Project". Designed to compete with Corellian Engineering Corporation's Corvette (CR-90) and Gunship (DP-20) lines, the ship was highly advanced and intended to carry significant anti-ship and anti-fighter armament for its size.
With the sudden de facto liberation of Mandalore following Imperial defeats in the Outer Rim, MandalMotors was given a priority contract to begin mass producing vessels to strengthen Mandalore's defense force. As the most ready design, the Crusader was given the initial priority, but one issue remained unsolved. The design team was unable to make the power generator small enough to support sufficient firepower, speed and shields for both anti-ship and anti-fighter roles.
To fix this issue, the design was split into its component parts. The Crusader name was given to the Corvette variant, which kept the high speed and a pair of dual turbo laser armament of the original concept. Later, the more specialized anti-fighter and anti-missile weapon systems and shield generators were built on the same hull to create the "Protector class Gunship". Both ships soon formed the backbone of the Mandalorian military.
The ship on the top is the Crusader Corvette, the one on the bottom is what we are calling the "Protector Gunship". Both are based on the Crusader Corvette from Empire at War, but in that game the "Corvette" role is basically the Sins Light and Anti-fighter role combined.
Rather than try to make a combined Light/Antifighter unit work, we decided to split the ship's roles into two separate units. The Crusader Corvette would be used as the Light Frigate, while the EaW Crusader's antifighter guns and anti-missile system were transferred to her new cousin we designed, the Protector Gunship. This is the only case of us making up a unit so far, but as it is entirely based on the capacities of an existing unit we hope it will be acceptable. :-) It also means more genuine Mandalorian units can be in the mod.
It in universe explanation is in the description box on the right, which references that the Light and Antifigher roles were initially intended to be combined per the EaW version of the unit.
I look forward to blowing them sky high as the mighty Galactic Empire. No one shall challenge the Reign of Lord Vader, not even the honorable and proud Mandalorians will be able to withstand the unlimited firepower of my Ion cannons and turbo lasers, and what ever else Imperials ship pack as weapons.
question. in EAW they had a point defence system. is that why you made the two varients? (also the crusader blew both the tarken and corellian corvet out of the water in EAW?
Not quite. Empire at War doesn't really have an equivalent to Light Frigate, or if it does its the same as the antifighter. We needed two different units in Sins for these two roles, so we sort of split the attributes of the EaW crusader into two similar Sins frigates.
The antimissile system is going on the anti-fighter frigate, what we're calling the Protector Gunship, but we would have done this even if the EaW Crusader never had this ability.
Can we like do old canon mandalorians? Thanks
If you mean Old Republic era Mandalorians, I'm afraid not. We won't be adding any ships unless they've been seen around the time of the films. No thousands of years old Kandosii or anything.
This is gonna screw some people up, you cant tell at a glance which is which, and its going to make some people think twice about their deployment... which is exactly what I think you guys were going for.
I think it will be more obvious in game when you see all the smaller guns on the Protector.
