STA3: Road to the Stars is a mod for ARMA3 that brings the Star Trek TOS series to life. It will allow you to explore strange new worlds, and let you take part in away missions that will test both your diplomatic and combat ability. In the first stage of the project three proof of concept addons will be released. The Class F shuttle, the Type II phaser, and Starfleet Officer playable characters (and perhaps a surprise or two). In the second phase you will find the USS Enterprise and other large ships of various factions, OPFOR infantry and weapons, and a playable map including missions. The ships are looking great, and I am working on getting some systems online. Right now, work starts off with Engineering. Arma3's fuel system has been converted into dilithium. What does this mean for gameplay?
- Dilithium crystals will lose energy as the ship is being used. If weapons are online, they will drain faster.
- Slowing down to a speed of less than 10 will ensure that the crystals recharge.
The crystals will be the foundation of energy management on the ship, and it will be important to pay attention to that as the captain.
I am currently working on the shields and the user interface for the ship. I'm hoping that each console will be unique with features specific to each workstation.
Scripting is brand new to me, and poses the greatest challenge. Unfortunately, showing you all code would not make for an interesting update, so you will have to trust that I am still working in the background. Hopefully I can have a video or two in the relatively near future.
