Notice!

The Cutting Room Floor Project is now officially discontinued. As of December 2021 all Cutting Room Floor mods should be working with the most recent version of SOMA however I will no longer be supporting them or monitoring their MODDB/Workshop pages.

I wish I could have done more for this project but my real life circumstances mean that going forward I will be likely quitting gaming all-together in order to focus on the more important things in life.

Cutting Room Floor, along with my other mods, is now completely open source. Modify it, re-upload it, continue working on it or even steal it and call it your own. I've uploaded a zip file of some unused content that I was intending to add but never got around to doing so.

Introduction

SOMA: Cutting Room Floor is a project that aims to restore content that was cut from the final release by the developers but still present in the games files. While there are no exceedingly drastic changes to the overall game it is worth keeping in mind that this content was cut for a reason, and can alter the experience that Frictional Games originally intended. Therefore it is highly recommended that you refrain from using these mods if you have not already played the game, as the Cutting Room Floor is aimed at returning players who wish to experience a different take on SOMA.

As the restorations vary in quality and immersion each change is uploaded as an individual mod so you can leave out those which you don't like the sound of.

The Mods

Currently, the project consists of three functional mods that can be found in the files section. These include

The Ark - Restores cut dialogue from the Ark including a full conversation between Simon and Catherine

Omicron - Restores a significant amount of cut lines from Omicron, most of which occurred as the player explores the station as well as some puzzles and the cut 'patchwork man' enemy.

Akers - Restores some voice lines that Akers was originally supposed to say as he stalked the player through Theta.

Upsilon - Restores the unused "suitrobot' character as well as a significant amount of unused dialogue, data-buffers, sound effects and comments from Simon.

Future Additions

The Curie - Restores some datamine dialogue for the crew of the Curie. Also changed the circumstances for a conversation between Simon and Cath that while could occur in the vanilla game would only do so under obscure conditions.

Enemies - The latest omicron update introduces the first 'cut enemy' to be restored to the game. The next enemy that will be focused on is the crawler as it can be easily implemented into the game. As for the other two main enemy types; the spider and the old fleshers, there are currently no plans to introduce them as part of CRF as there are no areas in the main game that are suited to them making implementing them in a seamless way difficult.

Installation

Download the desired mods from the files tab of this page. Extract the .rar files into your SOMA/mods directory. Launch the game with addons and select the mods which you wish to load.

These mod can be used concurrently with my Hard Mode Mod

Recent changes to my real life circumstances mean that going forward I will be likely quitting gaming all-together in order to focus on the more important things in life. Consequently this means I will no longer be updating or supporting my mods for SOMA and Amnesia Rebirth.

As of December 2021, all my mods should be working with the current versions of their respective games at the time. As we saw with the Chinese update it's not totally impossible that FG will release a micro-update that ruins everything and in the event of this happening it's likely that certain mods (Especially Mavs Hard Mode) will stop working.

As a result of this, all my mods are now completely open source. Modify them, re-upload them, continue working on them or even steal them and call it your own work. No need to ask permission or even credit me as I won't be monitoring the ModDB or workshop pages anyway.

The exception to this will be the later versions of Cutting Room Floor: Omicron that contain the restored patchwork man as this was done by another author, "Random Person" who you can contact on the Frictional Games Discord for permissions.

I dreamed of a mod that restores old game content, and especially the old brain scan intro!
Please don't quit your job!

Fine work, my friend. Since you mentioned this is part of an ongoing project, I figure I might as well ask: Are you planning to reimplement the Patchwork Man and Crawler into the base game at some point?

I looked briefly into them. I managed to get the crawler semi-functional minus some animation bugs but as for patchwork man he is a bit beyond me.

As for the project as a whole I intend to put it mostly on hold as I wish to shift my modding focus to Rebirth for the time being. I intend to release what I have completed so far soon.
