Stand alone patch for the latest version of Silmarillion: Total War. Please delete your previous installation before installing this patch.
Step 1: Run the installer as an administrator and point it to wherever your Steam folder is located.
Step 2: Run the batch file to launch the mod. I recommend making a shortcut of it for your desktop. We've provided a .ico picture of the mods logo so that you can turn the shortcut into a proper desktop icon.
Known bugs:
If you have difficulties running the installer try extracting the contents of the .rar file to a folder on your desktop before running it.
The new menu overhaul can sometimes cause multiplayer lobbies to break when players leave. We have a fix for this and will be uploading it separately very soon. Players removed from a lobby using the kick function are not affected by this bug.
If your game starts with tiny resolution, go into the TATW.CFG file located inside the Silmarillion_Total_War folder and disable windowed mode.

Here's a brief summary of what's new. A more detailed article will follow soon:
I won't bore everyone with the tedium of listing every single stat change/reconception that's happened in the months since our last public release in September 2020, but I would like to take the time to go over the more salient features and discuss the general themes of the patch and what we're trying to achieve. I'm going to go over everything in detail and I'll answer some questions along the way. Finally in the last section of this stream I will open the floor for an extra 15 minutes of questions so you lot can ask me whatever you like about the mod.
With that said, the new Nirnaeth Arnoediad patch, so named because you will (hopefully!) have the tools necessary to reenact this dramatic battle upon release, puts a lot of emphasis on unit, faction, map, and perhaps more than anything, *compositional* diveristy which follows as a consequence of the former three. More than anything for this patch I want players to have the tools to play each faction in multiple different and viable ways according to the opponent you're facing, the map you're facing them on, and well as what you personally might fight fun to play. Additionally, players will be encouraged to make bold, aggressive plays with the addition of new weapon types and more mobility. Finally, all of this has will go hand in hand with the carefully crafted faction identities, multiplayer balance, and commitment to quality that I think Silmarillion is fast becoming known for.
So let's look at some new features
New factions:
Haladin- CQB focused roster with lots of mid range skirmish, medium/light infantry with some strong mobile utility in the form of hybrid cavalry and chariots.
Gondolin- a strong heavy infantry roster with broad access to many weapon types and the utility that they confer along with a limited medium/light selection and only 1 cavalry option.
(Maybe a limited Dwarven roster)
New units:
Flame troops
Skirmisher Expansion (Hard target javelins vs Harassment javs
Hunter Javs: 5x damage, -50% ammo, slower projectile in flight allows dodging, -20 meter range
Harass Javs: +50% ammo, -500% damage, faster in flight, +10 meter range
In addition, dedicated skirmish units have been made noticeably faster, though to what extent is contingent upon their armor classification. The goal of this is to allow javelins and axethrowers to be more responsive in game which will ultimately help them be a more effective and worthwhile pick upon the battlefield.
New Legendary Companies:
Easterlings
Ossiriand (hide everywhere, AP arrows, high charge bonus, high melee damage; low numbers, expensive, low MD
Finarfin (high damage, high charge, cheap upgrade cost, unbreakable, causes fear
Easterling Roster expansion:
New light cavalry
New Medium Cavalry
Shields for Axe throwers
Talk about reskins
Ossiriand Rework:
New Cavalry Unit (no shield, light armor, fragile; relatively cheap, decent MD and damage, very fast, increased charge distance)
Kinsmen of Denethor now a regular bodyguard tier unit, capped at 1, but they have slashing damage to minimize the spear penalty, increased numbers, and a +2 inspire to help keep other units in the fight.
Consequently, Randirrim have lost their bodyguard spot and have been shifted to be simply a high tier unit. Their cost has dropped appropriately and they should now be easier to fit into a multitude of compositions.
Mainline skirmishers such as the Scouts and Sentries of Gelion have gained some extra ammunition (+2 across the board) to allow Ossiriand to have better longevity and assert their will in drawn out skirmishes.
All mid tier bow units can upgrade their attack at the reduced cost of 20 (affected units include Skirmishers of Rathloriel, Sentries/Scouts of Gelion)
Finarfin Rework:
The house of Finarfin has had a number of important changes come to them in this patch which have mostly been focused on increasing their lethality in a thematic way that preserves their defensive identity.
So to that end:
Wardens of Nargothrond (the 1h spears) have had their damage type swapped from Piercing to Slashing.
Most Nargothrond mid tier units have had % based price reductions built in to their templates.
All artillery crews have been swapped to use Warden of Nargothrond detachments instead of Defenders of Talath Dirnen.
Defenders of Talath Dirnen have been re-envisioned as a hunter javelin unit, while detachment Swords of Talath Dirnen are now harassment javelin units capped at 3. These changes were implemented with the end goal of reducing Finarfin's dependence on their high tier pikemen
Infantry Classifications More Important:
Light Infantry:
Across the board light infantry have gained .025 speed, further increasing the gap between them and heavy infantry. Most light infantry have also had their shield values capped at 5, although there do exist some thematic exceptions which not only enhance flavor among factions and individual units, but also serve the practical purpose of allowing me to skirt around nerfing already well balanced units that's don't deserve it. One such exception is the Ossiriand Spearhost of Rathloriel. All effected units have had their prices adjusted accordingly, the result of which is an almost universal reduction in the cost of light infantry.
The Falathrim were probably one of the biggest beneficiaries of these changes, which opened up new light/medium infantry builds and reduced their dependency on their heavy infantry core.
Horse Skirmishers:
Light and medium horse skirmishers have had their speed adjusted according to their armor classification, with light units receiving the largest increases.
New maps:
The patch will add a large number of new maps, improved and expanded map previews, and an overhaul for existing maps to better integrate them into our map making philosophies.
New Map assets:
The Halloween asset pack will be included in the launch of Nirnaeth Arnoediad. This includes 70+ new battle editor buildings and props imported from the Battle for Middle Earth 2 base game
New UI:
Thanks to WK of the Reforged team we will also have an improved user interface which will notably allow players to create 8 person FFA scenarios for themselves and the community to enjoy.
RP Campaign Relaunch:
With the advent of the new patch the Silmarillion Discord roleplay campaign will be restarting to include all of the new factions and units. It will also feature an improved ruleset employing lessons learned over the last year.
ELO Ranking:
Finally the Silmarillion discord will have an ELO ranking system for the more competitively minded players among you to track your progress over time. This system will be managed by our discord and has the framework to rank all game formats from 1v1 grudge matches to epic 4v4 team battles.
And that's kind of it!
OOOOOH! Gondolin is my favourite faction from the Silmarillion/Lost Tales ever! I will be getting a new pc soon, then I can re-download the mod and experience the glory of the mod once again! (Haven't played for more than half a year due to an old broken laptop.)

OHHH MYYY GOD, Gondolin is finally here!
Love you guys!

I cannot wait to push back the evil of Angband with The Honourable soldiers of Gondolin
hey so when I try to open the batch file it says the code execution cannot proceed because 93dx9_30.dll was missing?
That's a direct X related issue.
is there singleplayer yet?
Campaign is being worked on for next patch. In the meantime if youre looking for a single player challenge we released 7 or so historical battles taken from important moments in the story.

Is there a possible ETA for campaign? I'm loving this mod, and you've done such an excellent job so far!
Cant give an ETA. I can say that we'll be working full stop on campaign and custom settlements over the holidays.

Installation instructions are provided in the description above. I could make a video of course, but it would be 10 seconds long and the only thing Id do is run the installer.
I followed the instructions to a T, got to the main page is said both campaigns were "unavailable"
Well that's because they aren't finished.

Looks like something related to your computer and nothing to do with the mod. I suggest Googling the error code and going from there.
