Geonosis is a map in the Star Wars and stuff happened there
I don't really like the stock Geonosis maps. I think they are bland and empty, so I wanted to try and make something better.
I started working on this map on August first, and finished on the 25th.
It has problems with objects flashing out of existance at a distance, but otherwise I'm very proud of how it turned out!
The custom units were made at a much earlier date for my era mod, so for the contest, this map shouldn't be judged based on the sides.
Have fun yo! Let the battle begin
Special Thanks to Pierce-Needle for fixing some props used in this map
This is awesome! Great work! The sound seems to not work for the stock gcw era for some reason, but the gameplay is unbelievable. Now I don't think I'll ever be making a geonosis trench war map, as this is perfect
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you're enjoying the map. All the sounds were working during my testing, but I can only use the steam version
Prob because of the soundfix mod. Never had the problem before, but shortly later I noticed the same thing happens with the old palpatine's office map, so probably nothing on your end. Strange that it's only those two maps though
I can confirm that it was because of the remaster sound mod. Sound is fine once I uninstalled it. Great work!
I have been seeing a sound mod used in many videos of my mods lately. I will try and account for this in testing for future maps
Is this your GT contest map? Edit: Ah, it is. Nice.
After finding this map by chance (and seeing there was only one video for it), I decided to take a gamble and download it.
For those who are unaware, there's four missions - all Conquest. Both Clone Wars and GCW are here (stock sides x 2 era missions, and the author's own modified sides x 2 era missions).
Despite the defenders (CIS/Rebels) having extra units compared to the attackers, the invaders still have a strong advantage - and I would recommend setting the defender units to about 110 or 120% of the attacking units. I've got the Galaxy of Heroes mod installed - and despite on my first stock Clone Wars play with Pong Krell as the CIS leader (one of the strongest CIS 'Heroes'), I still lost by about 30 units. Because...there's several Jedi aiding the Clones! Besides stock Jedi, I encountered Anakin, Obi Wan, Kit Fisto, and Shaak Ti. Whereas there's one CIS leader. It took a few plays for me for the CIS to defeat the Republic - and that was down to the wire, because the Jedi kept respawning.
In both of the modified sides missions, some of the attacking troopers have powerful chainsaw guns - and the Empire has frightening Purge Troopers. Never seen them in a BF map before! But it was a shame that electro-staff Magnaguards weren't present, to beef up the CIS.
Summary: Most impressive! Probably the best Geonosis map I've played on. Rahm Kota is an added bonus. Just remember to accordingly set the defending army units to a higher percentage than the attackers!
Update review: After further testing of all four Conquest missions, I would advise that the Defending army is set to 120-130% of the Attacking army (recommend either decrease the number of invaders or increase the defenders) - as the defenders are REALLY under pressure on this map. This is due to the weapons of some attacker units, as well as the special attacker units that keep respawning at the northernmost Command Post (not sure if killing them reduces the number of attacking units, or not). And the Republic/Empire can fly in some craft right to the southern edge of the map, to further unbalance the odds.
If you're defending and you feel you can capture the northernmost Command Post, then go for it. But I've found it to be really hard to achieve. It's a shame that the Rebels don't have aerial units to help on this.
PS: Rahm Kota has a 'slam' ability - but it's different from Mace Windu's or Kit Fisto's. Tricky to get use to.
Still an impressive map. It's never crashed on me, either (to my recall).
Thanks for the feedback. If I ever update this map, I will make these changes
Thank you for reading my reviews. I was actually playing your special version of GCW for this map, last night... Except that the map kept crashing, especially (but not always) only when I threw a grenade as a basic Rebel soldier. I do have two mods on that computer - and I'll see if I can load your Geonosis Spire Attack map to another computer, to see if the crash problem can be avoided. Strange, it never seemed to crash when I first played the map, back in November. Now it often does.
But yes, it's an unbalanced map. Besides the issues I've already written about, playing as the defenders and trying to capture the three northernmost CPs, the red light slow...ly drains away to white. And there's enemy fire trying to stop the player capturing the northernmost CP, besides the attackers' special units out to kill any defender unit trying to capture this CP.
Thank you for your work on this.
great map!
Thanks!
the best map of geonosis, are you planning to make a new map?
I think I will but I have some irl stuff to get through first
One of the best Geonosis maps I've ever played. Republic just needs a Clone Commander.
The republic has the phase 2 clone commander, but they are not more powerful than other troopers
Well, young Skymodder. After playing this map, I will follow your career with great interest.
This is one of the very best Geonosis maps I've played. I love the Homefront Mod,and really appreciate this map being added into the mix. I think that the level is well balanced for both eras as well. I've played as all four sides, and thought the level design was great, as well as the various ways you can use the vehicles and classes to conquer the level. Really looking forward to any future maps you make!
