If you play as a dark lord or vassal of some kind, can you 'rise up through the ranks' or something and become faction leader?
Ability enact a coup/revolt to takeover leadership would be good.
What's exactly the point of that if you can just play as the leader?

From the background story: "His ultimate act was the summoning of the souls of once great Kings which were now his servants and generals." So the Dark Lords where summoned by Nehebkau and are kinda of his puppets, they aren't supposed to have much free will ;) It's like kinda Sauron and the Nazguls, do you imagine Nazguls rebelling against Sauron when they are kinda part of him?
Sauron replaced the Dark Lord Morgoth :)
I love mods that give you the option. It should always be an option to start as a vassal or "king" or start as a no one fighting his way up. The option should always be available.
You have all those options and more in my "main mod", this mod was an idea that come to my mind while watching few gameplay as the Undead and Demon factions from the old game Disciples 2, I thought why not create a campaign in Warband that would be completely designed to play as the Undead faction having this great immersion, and that's what I did ^^ I could technically just give the option to play as adventurer (including make all races playable) or join any other faction from beginning but since all the design of the mod is for the Undead faction, playing in any other way wouldn't feel right, believe me. You will understand that if you play the mod.
It sounds awesome and yeah if a mod is meant to play as an Undead lord then thats what one should do.
So what's the difference between an Ordo Serpens leader and a Dark Lord?
Dark Lords are the vassals.
