The correct term is Basileus, not Baselius. Modern Greeks like Antonis pronounce Beta as "Vita", while in ancient greek it's Beta.

By the time of Heraclius, that pronunciation had already changed, possibly since the Hellenistic period. Pretty early on, we find the diphthong "μπ" representing the "b" sound. So it is correct that people would have pronounced it "vasileus" at that time period. Writing it as "Basileus" is a matter of convention, like writing "Rhodes" instead of "Rhodos".
