Inspired by popular MOBA titles such as DoTA and League of Legends, Renegade Wars is a mod map which brings competitive multiplayer "hero action-RTS" gameplay to C&C Kane's Wrath, but with a strong sense of endearment to its C&C roots.

HOW TO SETUP MAP IN-GAME
- Requires 1 AI at bottom-left (preferably GDI) and top-right (preferably Nod) corners
- Requires atleast 1 player per team at the hero start positions (the 3 positions near the corner positions)
Without these the map will end game immediately when started.
ADDITIONAL GAME MODES
(*) Pick ZOCOM or MOK for all hero players = Capture the Flag mode
(*) Pick T59 = Prodigy hero (for fun/trolling purposes, not a real hero, cannot buy upgrades etc)
QUICK NOOB GUIDE
1) Pick a hero, read the descriptions of its 4 abilities.
2) Buy 1 "Regen Pod" and "Sensor Pod" from the building tab when inside the spawn/base area.
3) When battle timer starts, quickly go along with your infantry waves to one 1 of the 3 paths.
4) Stay behind your infantry, use your hero's ranged abilities to safely attack enemy infantry.
5) DO NOT fight enemy infantry directly without help from friendly infantry and your abilities; if you are taking damage immediately retreat behind your infantry.
6) Pick up all crates (by 'attacking' them) dropped by enemies for money and levels.
7) You can use 'Aggressive Stance' to make your hero quickly auto-pick up nearby crates. Note: Do NOT use this stance except for picking up crates because your hero will ignore most attack/move commands in this stance.
8) Use Regen Pod if low on health, or use Wormhole near your tower (and 2nd Wormhole at base area) to quickly retreat to base for regeneration - buy 1-2 more Regen Pods if necessary and quickly return to Tower using same Wormhole.
9) Always use Sensor Pods for extra vision and detecting stealth heroes.
10) Save money to buy upgrades from the 3 Market areas to make your hero more powerful.
11) At level 4, all your 4 hero abilities are unlocked; you can then attempt to pressure/destroy enemy Towers or heroes, but remember to keep collecting crates.
12) Use teamwork to destroy enemy Towers or heroes, gradually push into the enemy base.
13) Based on your hero's current requirements, buy the appropriate upgrades and powers at the various markets.
14) When moving around the map far from your towers, you may need to quickly return to base or a tower - for this use the Wormhole Portal power and then use Wormhole near the deployed Wormhole Portal (2nd Wormhole at destination tower/base)... if you are quick enough you can even regen at base, buy upgrades and return via the same wormholes before they expire.
15) Read all the powers and upgrade descriptions, and refer to 'stats' section on this page for more detailed info.
NOTE: Handicap settings 5-50% on this map give your hero a health bonus between 50-500%. It is HIGHLY recommended that if you are a new player, you start with a 5-10% handicap, and as you get better at controlling/using your hero/units, you can slowly reduce the handicap down to 0%.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
What am I supposed to do in this game mode?
Pick a hero, make your hero powerful via levelling it up and buying upgrades, fight for map control, destroy enemy towers and win by eventually destroying the statue inside the enemy base. Ofcourse it's not as simple because your opponent heroes are trying to do just the same...
If you are familiar with MOBA/hero games, this map is like a DoTA/League of Legends for KW - although I liken it more to a multiplayer commando mission map with some competitive elements.
That's all fine, but what am I REALLY supposed to do?
90% of the gameplay is based on map control, and map control comes from towers. You basically just need to push enemy towers and lead your infantry to destroy the enemy towers and base; this should be your #1 priority. Money and levels for your your hero will come naturally with this (as long as you are picking up crates and attacking the infantry safely).
Your #2 priority is to simply not die. Although your hero will respawn sometime after death, you lose valuable money and time. It's only worse if you die to an enemy hero because he even gains significant money and XP from killing you. However, while hero kills are important, remember that if you dont capitalize on kills by pushing and gaining map control... the kills are quite pointless - so never forget that #1 priority!
Priority #3 is to simply make the right decisions, and have good hero micro. Upgrades are a big factor, and you should know which upgrades to buy based on the situation. Likewise, knowing when/where to be on the map is also a big skill component.
How exactly do I get money and levels for my hero?
Money: Money comes primarily from picking up crates dropped by enemies. Additionally, the team also gets bonus money by destroying enemy towers or structures.
XP/Levels: Picking up crates gives a small amount of XP (20%), but most XP (80%) is gained by actually killing enemies (landing the killing blow). Damaging enemies does not give XP.
There are 10 levels for heroes, with each level granting more damage, rate of fire and health.
All players also receive a small amount of money per second automatically (like a Tiberium Spike).
I can't seem to pick up certain crates.
You can only pick up crates dropped by enemy units. Crates typically last 10 seconds after being dropped.
You can however, attack friendly crates to make them expire sooner (in 5 seconds).
Note that setting 'aggressive stance' on your hero will make it automatically pick up nearby crates. It is however HIGHLY recommended you AVOID 'aggressive stance' at all other times as it makes your hero act on its own accord and ignore orders.
How to get the upgrades in the tabs? They are greyed out...
You can only buy upgrades when your hero is at one of the 'market/shop' areas. There are 3 types of markets, with 1 of each type on either half of the map.
Base Market (Structure tab): All Level 1 GDI/NOD upgrades, consumable items, XP crates
Hidden Market (Defence tab): All Level 2 GDI/NOD upgrades, advanced upgrades
Side Market (Infantry tab): Scrin upgrades
The market areas appear as green/white-coloured tents with a civilian guy standing near it.
How to use the support powers on the left? They are greyed out...
You can only use support powers that you have bought the upgrades for.
For example, the Cloaking power is available when you purchase the Cloak upgrade at the Base Market; the Mind Control power is available when you purchase the Mind Control upgrade at the Side Market etc.
OMG, my hero didn't respond to my commands and ended up dying.
Avoid 'aggressive stance' on your hero especially in micro-intensive situations. Use 'guard mode' instead, and for even greater control, use 'hold ground'.
Switching between stances based on the situation is (like it or not), a part of the game because unit behaviour is largely engine-hardcoded.
How to repair/heal my hero? What is 'energy', and where do I check how much I have?
You can repair your hero by returning to the base area (where your hero spawns). Additionally, there are upgrades/items such as Regen pods, Powerpacks and Life Drain which allow you to recover health without returning to base.
Energy is a resource (like money) used for your abilities. When you use abilities, you require and spend energy. Energy is represented by your power meter next to the minimap. Energy is innately regenerated automatically at a very slow rate, but is quickly recovered at base. There are also certain items/upgrades which increase your energy regeneration rate.
It takes frigging hours to walk back to base, can I get some fast transportation?
There are several mobility options to move around the map quickly.
Besides movement upgrades for hero (Cybernetic Legs and Blink), you can buy a Call for Transport/Carryall or Hammerhead upgrade to gain access to those aircraft units.
However, the best and cheapest means of travelling around the map at early game is via the Wormhole power. These can ONLY be placed near friendly structures, so you can quickly move between base and towers.
If you are too far from friendly structures, you can use the 'Wormhole Portal' power, which deploys a temporary outpost near your hero. Once deployed, you can then create a Wormhole near this outpost to travel to another friendly structure - this is most useful when you want to quickly return to base from enemy territory. The outpost can be easily destroyed, so you should use it away from enemy threats.
Later in the game you can upgrade your Call for Transport/Carryall with Stratoboosters, which allow you to quickly teleport near any friendly unit/structure for a small cost. Carryalls and Hammerheads can carry friendly heroes too, so you can transport teammates with it.
Why do heroes feel so weak? My Commando keeps dying to like 3 Rifle/Rocket infantry... it's frustrating.
Heroes feeling weak at early stages is part of the game. Once your hero has levels and upgrades however, it's a completely different story... but it's part of the game to get to that stage gradually.
But it's VERY important to note that every hero has some way of killing enemy infantry safely at level 1. For example:
- Red Widow has her Laser Scope ability which gives her very long range to snipe infantry from safe distance.
- Sniper can use for Bombard strikes to kill infantry from long range.
- Storm Hammer can fire EMP blasts which significantly slows down enemy infantry's movement and rate of fire, allowing him to engage them easily during its effect.
- Combat Engineer gets free repairs with his Battledrone, allowing him to take risks despite having low damage and health.
- Fanatic has a melee attack but can throw Molotov Cocktails from good range, dealing very high damage to infantry.
- Punisher can use his Aura to boost himself and his allied infantry, softening up the enemy units and making them easier targets for himself.
etc
By level 2 and beyond, this only gets better as heroes get access to even more powerful abilities. However, you still cannot solo engage enemy infantry with your hero without having several upgrades or levels; you must continue to use friendly infantry for meatshielding/cover until you are powerful enough.
It is recommend to buy 2 Regen Pods at the start of the game, as these allow you to take some risks to gain early levels and then heal up without having to return to base.
There's a lot of upgrades to buy... which one should I go for?
There are many different upgrade routes. Based on your hero, playstyle and situation, you can pick from many choices. Here is a (very) general classification of the upgrades:
For early game = Regen Pods, Energy Pods
For map vision/detection = Sensor Pods, Recon Bike
For mobility/speed = Cybernetic Legs, Hammerhead, Carryall Transport
For survivability = Composite Armor, Forcefield
For DPS/damage = Firepower, Cloak, Obelisk, Rocket Pods, Ion Storm, Microwave Emitter
For having your own army of mindcontrolled creeps = Mind Dominator, AOE Mindcontrol
For sustainability = Fuel Cells, Life Drain, Powerpacks, Fusion Cores
For pulling clutch moves/fast escapes or disabling = Blink, Stasis, EMP, Shockwave
For reinforcement powers = Predator Tank, Flametank, Devastastor Warship, Ion Cannon
etc.
So I managed to buy a very early Ion Cannon and used it on the enemy barracks/statue, and it did no damage... why?
All structures (except the outermost towers) are invincible until you destroy the structure in-front of it.
- The 2nd tower along a path is invincible until you destroy the outermost (1st) tower.
- The barracks (3rd) tower is invincible until you destroy the 2nd tower.
- The barracks is invincible until you destroy the barracks tower.
- The Sonic Emitters are invincible until you destroy both barracks on atleast ONE path.
- The Statue is invincible until you destroy both Sonic Emitters.
What's with the Scrin infantry and mutants at certain places around the map?
They are neutral creep units. You can kill them for a quick money/XP boost. Alternatively, you can mind control them using mind control upgrades, gaining access to their unique special abilities.
Can this map be only played as 3v3?
No, 1v1 and 2v2 are also possible. Infact, the map allows 3 additional minor game modes for faster-paced 1v1 and 2v2:
- 1v1 Mid Only: This mode is enabled by having 1 GDI/Nod player and 2 Scrin players per team at the hero player positions. Only structures along mid path can be destroyed, other lane towers are permanently invulnerable.
- 1v1 Mid Only Quickmatch: This mode is enabled by having 1 GDI/Nod player and 2 Scrin players per team at the hero player positions. First to destroy the first mid tower wins, other lane towers are permanently invulnerable.
- 2v2 No Mid Lane: This mode is enabled by having 2 GDI/Nod players and 1 Scrin player per team at the hero player positions. Structures along mid path are permanently invulnerable, other lanes have destructible towers.
Also note: When teams are imbalanced (2v3, 1v3, 1v2), the disadvantaged team gets more auto-income.
Am I allowed to pick the base AI's spot? I can control the Rifle/Rocket infantry, and they have abilities too...
Although the base AI's spot is currently only designed for AI, human players can still take the spot as long as they agree not to mess up the game by controlling the infantry armies (or doing other stuff, like quitting the game which can also ruin it).
And yes, Rifle/Rocket infantry have their own abilities too which are useful when mind controlled - similarly the various Scrin/neutral units in the jungle areas can also be mindcontrolled to make use of their unique abilities.
I found a Hexapod in the green water area. What is it for?
The Hexapod is the strongest neutral creep in the game. It will usually require your team to work together, or a very strong hero to destroy it. Once destroyed, it drops 3 regular crates as well as an 'Invincibility Crate'.
The hero who takes the Invincibility Crate is given the 'Superdimensional Phase Field' power, available for 3 minutes. When used, this power grants near-invincibility to the hero for 15 seconds, making him immune to all damage and effects. However, no abilities can be used during this state.
The Hexapod respawns 6 minutes after being destroyed, so it can be destroyed several times during a game to claim the Invincibility Crate.
I was playing and had some weird bugs occur suddenly, and I get 'MAP CRITICAL ERROR' message... what just happened?
This is a very rare bug which is triggered by some unknown events. When it occurs, the map has essentially 'broken' - your only option then is to restart KW (may also crash when you try quitting the match).
If you see ever see this bug happen, please report it here and provide a replay so we can look into it.
No enemy Hero A.I., WHY?!!! Sorry, I just play alone most of the time
AI hero exists, but the AI hero hasnt been programmed to do anything useful/clever... so currently it either sits at one spot or constantly walks into and dies to enemy units - its very difficult to make an AI hero work for such a complex game mode
