That new building actually functions as your resource collector. Basically there are resource "deposits" scattered about the map. To collect resources you just place an "extractor" on top and it'll auto-generate. Each extractor can be upgraded a few different ways, like faster resource collection, etc!
For this first initial release and SP campaign, there will only be 2 factions featured. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a 3rd, or sub-factions in a much later release though.
On the colours - it was a tough decision to make. The main reason we switched is because of team colours. Team colours honestly looked horrible on the green units/structures, so we made the tough decision to remove green. I'm not a huge fan of copying Nod with the black/red colour scheme but we did a LOT of tests on colour combinations. The red and black just looked better than almost everything, sadly. I've been considering orange, green, and blue as alternatives (so we aren't copying C&C too badly!)
We are actually working on a cool little trailer that will explain everything and give a nice intro to the whole game universe we've created.
I don't want to give it all away in a boring post (trailer is about a month off) but I'll tell ya a few things about the game. We are set on planet Earth, no space flight or traveling to other planets. Also, there are no aliens in the game. The two factions are entirely human - fighting on battlefields around the world (set about 50 years in the future).
Imagine a battlefield of today, but a little bit crazier and higher-technology. This is roughly the setting of our game.

Ironically, I find that the other faction would look great in yellow/gold or some kind of blue. :P
