Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a modification for the retail Battlefield 2 multi-player PC game. Project Reality's aim is to create a more realistic combat environment than standard Battlefield 2, and place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. Most of the aspects of Battlefield 2 that have the capacity to be modified have been tweaked, or completely overhauled, to reflect their real life counterparts, for increased realism. Ballistics have for example also been audited to reflect those of real weapons, including characteristics such as damage, deviation and bullet drop depending on a weapon systems calibre. Since EA and DICE no longer support Battlefield 2 and is no longer being played online, the Project Reality team made PR:BF2 a standalone game. No longer is a installation of Battlefield 2 required and we have implemented our own online account system for online play.

We also want to share some new information and insights concerning PR v0.7! Yes, PR v0.7 will be releasing just prior to or just after the start of the 2008, although as some of you have probably seen/heard, some of the features we had hoped get in with this upcoming release have been postponed until early next year when we'll be moving on with v0.8, what exactly is missing from the 0.7 release we aren't saying just yet, but rest assured the v0.7 release will be a well-rounded and heavy hitting bit of PR goodness, which you should definitely check out.

One of the other bits of news we want to bring you today concerns a new forum section we've recently started posting in, we call it the “PR Dev Journal”. It provides our community and the public a taste of what exactly it is we're working on behind the scenes and between official news posts. In the journal you'll find screenshots, renders, videos, and good ole' plain text of some of the ongoing additions and changes to PR. So enough chatter, here are just a few bits of eye-candy one can expect (M16A4 with ACOG/Ironsight variants, RPG-7, and the Militia Spandrel):

We would also like to show off one of our next maps known as “The Battle for Qinling”, it will be a British vs PLA map with lots of hilly forest terrain that will feature mainly Combined Arms gameplay. One is sure to see new assets (such as the Challenger 2 MBT) exclusive to PR v0.7 mixing it up alongside familiar air and infantry units.

In closing we want to thank our loyal community as well as the public for their continuing support. We wish you all a happy and safe holiday season and look forward to providing you with further news and future builds of Project Reality Mod in 2008!
