Alive & Kicking is now officially on Steam Greenlight! And at the time of writing this article, we're actually #1 of 1,515 games in Greenlight - all thanks to your support. Hopefully it can maintain its position and earn a place on Steam in the next round of games. If you haven't yet seen Alive & Kicking on Greenlight, click here.

Meanwhile, the mod itself continues to take shape. In the last large batch of screenshots, we showed how we reworked our lighting and cleaned up the tests. The decision to do this mostly came from urging from the community, but also because we felt like the previous visual theme was inconsistent and made the mod feel sloppy. After posting those screenshots, we actually made entirely new textures for the maps, combining the design of Portal 2's textures with the grungy characteristic concrete from the first Portal.

Thanks for your support so far - with your help, we can get A&K onto everybody's favorite distribution platform. Expect even more media updates if and/or when we finally make the cut!

No; we've put out some music/media in the past week to hint at an update but we'd rather wait until we have a trailer to do anything big.

Three questions to ask:
1) Is this game going to be an Indie using the Source 2 Engine or will it be remained as a Portal 2 mod?
2) Any timetable for a mod release, perhaps even a closed/open beta? I think it's about time you guys need beta testers.
3) Why is the development taking so long despite most of the maps that are easy to create?

1) This will be a Portal 2 mod. Porting to Source 2 isn't possible at the moment, and probably wont be for quite a while (if ever). It'd be nice, though!

2) Nothing official. We do have some closed playtesting, although the number of playtesters we use is pretty small. That might be changing soon.

3) Most of us on the development team are continuously getting better at what we do, and finding new ways to improve our mapping. Unfortunately, that also means going back and editing all of the old levels to meet the same standard. Parts of the escape section have been completely tossed out and redone multiple times during development.

That, and school. I know at least one of us is doing a double major. Pretty much the only active development time for us is during Winter and Summer (mostly Summer).

Hey guys! We haven't gotten a media update in some time, which is unfortunate. But I'm sure that's because you guys are working really hard to finish up this project, and I have to say I'm hyped! However, if you guys see this, I actually have two concerns/suggestions:
First of all, you guys hinted that you would be using a Portal 2 styled GlaDOS model instead of the original one. Well I just wanted to point out that the Portal 2 GlaDOS IS the original one, in terms of the actual design. If you look at this comparison: you can see that it's the same exact head in both games, it's just that Portal 2 removed some parts and changed up the color scheme a bit. I think you should keep the original head style with the Portal 2 body, but only use the Portal 2 head model when [SPOILERS] GlaDOS is lying on the ground outside at the end of the game, damaged. That way there's an explanation as to why those parts were removed in Portal 2. [ENDSPOILERS] I'm not saying you guys should use the original Portal 1 model, I'm just saying that the head should have the same exact design as the original Portal except with updated textures / model geometry and maybe an animated eye. That would make perfect sense in my opinion.
Also, I noticed you guys are using the Portal 2 door, and that's great. However, you guys might want to consider using a cleaner texture, as Portal 2's door is a lot dirtier than it would be at the time of Portal 1. Here's a custom texture I made for my own Portal 2-to-Portal 1-pack so you guys can see what I mean:
Hell, you guys can even use this texture if you want, and I don't care if I'm credited (although I'm sure you guys will use your own texture 'cause it's obviously all your own hard work here on this awesome project so far).
Like I said, those are just my minor concerns and suggestions. I still can't wait for the release of this, and the work you guys have put in so far looks absolutely stunning. Very hyped for your release, and even if you guys have only a bit more left to do, keep up the excellent work!

I'm not personally working on glados or her animations, but I do know that we used to have clean textures for a lot of the mod. We've decided to keep everything a bit dirty to contrast the clean chambers that come after the destroyed ones in Portal 2- everything's already been sitting there for a while when Portal 1 happens, wheareas in Portal 2 they look 'even better than before.'
