It's 13 months after the incidents at Black Mesa. The Black Mesa Research Facility has been shut down. The nation never got to know anything about the experiments there. The less you know, the less you worry. The government founded a new organisation to handle "alien related topics". They hired the best scientists, technicians and military forces worldwide, its name is Poke646. Some days ago the Poke646 scientists spotted alarming signals from the Xen homeworld. It looks as if the aliens plan to invade Nation City by opening a massive amount of portals. But the Poke646 Tech Labs are already prepared: some months ago the technicians developed a huge generator which is able to close hundreds of portals at once with a bundled energy beam. Four generators are about to be installed at the edges of Nation City. With all four activated they will form a giant beam and hopefully destroy the alien portal technology forever. You play the role of Damien Reeves, the technical assistant...
Literally one of THE BEST mods that the Half-Life Modding Community has to offer. Brilliant backstory and kickass combat sequences galore in this great mod. It offers a new character, new setting, and some new weapons at the player's disposal. If you haven't played this already, get it now! If you have played this already, it's time to give it a go again.
Another review incoming, and this time for one of the few great singleplayer mods for Half-Life 1.Many good things in here.Custom music used here, custom weapons, good story too.The quality is very nice, even though the mod is so damn old.And that's a good thing.
You had choices of weapons kinda intersting, such as a Nail Gun.That's right, a nail gun.Or even a automatic nail gun as a improving after you get through the game a bit more.
You can even have a double-barreled pump-action shotgun.Now that's awesome.
10/10, highly recommended.
I don't really know what to write about this. I'll just put the positive and negative together.
+ An interesting story, partially told through incoming messages.
+ Custom textures and models give the game a unique atmosphere which makes it stand out in the half-life universe.
+ I loved the urban locations in a game, something I've rarely seen done good.
+ Amazing custom weapons which look great and feel great.
+ One of the best huds I've ever seen in an half-life game.
+ Good balanced combat and thought-out puzzles.
- The ending was wrapped up a bit quickly I think and was a bit confusing for me, but this might be fixed in the sequel.
In the end it's a good mod, even though the name might be a bit confusing and misleading. As good as gets though it didn't leave me dazzled and amazed at how good it was, so I'll just give it a 9/10.
Nice level design, although I felt very cramped alot of the time in its purely interior levels. The part in the streets of Poke was very refreshing as I can’t say I’ve seen that in any mod before apart from They Hunger.
New weapons, each seems more awesome then the last.
Although I felt the nailgun was overused to hell and back. While I appreciate new weapons, I think we should get a chance to use each adequately…
The mod ended rather quickly for me but the sequel adds to it so if played in one sitting can provide for a enjoyable experience… with a vaguely interesting story.
I don’t understand why the soldiers were shooting at me, while it does make for some good action, it was handled badly I think. In the end I felt as though that it was a bad move on the part of the developer to have soldiers firing at civilians.
Then theres stuff like an alien that you feed candy which I thought was cute but a bit out of place in half-life even it its a mod.
Theres other things that ditracted from the experience that made it feel very, un-serious. Like the mod tries to do alot of things.
In the end I thought that the gameplay was rather average in difficulty and it doesn’t have much surprises scripts wise, even with new weapons and a unique beautifully designed environment… I don’t want to play it again.
