Phobos Incident is going to be a full-fledged campaign for Alien Swarm. It can be considered as a re-imagining or an alternate future for the base that was the place of action in the game Doom. Now four marines are sent to investigate a distress signal in a place that could be Phobos moon base 17 years after. Some things have changed, some have remained.

New campaign for Alien Swarm is under way. Geometry at 90%, scripts at .. err.. 40%, and only one custom sound added so far.

So far so good

Although I could have just posted a "map pack" for this, I don't think it would correlate with the amount of work I'm going to have to go through with this mod. So far the pace is good and the first map of total of 9 is now at around 90% geometry and I'm doing the scripts and other things while making the map. I'm learning the use of Hammer while I'm working on this so it's quite slow at first, but I should pick up the pace once I get the ropes.

Be patient and remember that I'm not going to make a remake from the original Doom like this user WboKunic is working on:

Instead I want to create something quite different. You'll get it once I'll get the preview out. Hopefully you like it.

Oh,yeah..

I'm also working on a teaser video on the first map. It's still in horrid incompleteness, but as soon as I get to my working computer I will try to finish it. I'll have to figure out how to pack it all in one simple package for you guys and gals to try out. If you know, let me know, ok?

Till next time!

EDIT: Reworded the part before video, as it was deemed offensive. My apologies, I try hard not to ruin other people's moods, but accidents happen. Sorry WboKunic.

Sounds cool, are you going to keep the original Alien Swarm marine models? They seem kind of weird for marines to me. Just me, anyway.

It'd be neat to change the models too, but that's not in my original plans. So if it's done it will be secondary priority, besides oddly the AS models have a slight resemblance with the Doom models in my opinion. Might just be me though. ;)

I also would have wanted to use HTPD (High-Res Texture Pack for Doom), but their license won't allow it.

You mean the animated marine's face? I'm not certain if it's possible unless I mess around with the game files. Also I couldn't change all four as, although it would give some immersion having a similar face in all of them would be somewhat dull, no? Or if you had something else in mind, let me know.

If you are going to link to alpha footage of my Doom map when it isn't even released (hence alpha) and then insult the mapping work, at least consult me. I am not releasing my Doom campaign until it's in the beta stage. That was alpha 1. Basically all I had done at that point was get the general brush work done without any props, decals and such.

A lot of mappers go on Moddb. If you link to someones map (which is very clearly in an alpha state), then insult it in a public post, they're probably going to read it. Why not do your own thing and try and market your version of the campaign on its own merits?

I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. My only purpose was to say I'm not going to make a remake. I don't like trashing other people's work as I know creating something from scratch isn't easy.

Sorry. I'll try to reword the news in a less offensive way, thanks for letting me know. No harsh feelings?

My map is intended to be a quasi-remake. The general level is the same (minus a few secret areas), but with added props, decals and such. From the way you just replied, it seems like your aiming to do something like Classic Doom 3? Making the original doom levels look and feel like Alien Swarm levels while retaining the general location?

I haven't played the classic Doom 3, but I get your meaning. I'm actually going to make it like 17 years had passed from the original games.

For example the toxic sludge pit in the first mission has been made bigger and deeper as if emptied (you can see me almost dying in there near the end of the video). Also the entrance hall is now a recreational area and the secret door near the entrance has been replaced with an actual door.

So, the basic map layout looks the same, but I try to give the world a bit more depth, than original Doom did. So yes, and no, bit more on the yes side. :) Alternate future for Doom with Alien Swarm look and feel.

Edit: added some text to the end.

I don't know, you have to ask that from wbokunic. That footage is from his map. Check my video from the video section, or from youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5u3krHi8P8) instead.
