Tercio Provincial de Toledo (Los Azules Viejos - Early) image - Nine Years War mod for Empire: Total War
This mod aims to recreate the atmosphere of the period of the War of the Grand Alliance, also known as the Nine Years War. The mod will reflect the transition from matchlock to flintlock and from pike to bayonet. There will be a new faction (the Cossack Hetmanate and the Jacobites). The mod will incorporate some units of the Hetmanate TW mod with some changes to reflect the late 17th century.
The first Spanish uniforms of the reign of Charles II were based on those of the Duke of Schomberg's French army that was sent to help the Portuguese during the Portuguese Restoration War (1640-68). The term "Chamberga" was coined for it. The lining of the coat was turned back at the front. At first it was allowed to hang loose, but by the 1690s, the addition of buttons made it resemble lapels. In 1694 there was a major reform of the Spanish uniforms, that brought them closer to the French style. Its probable that not all Tercios (Spanish regiments) dressed in this style, but the 5 Provincial Tercios (Madrid, Valladolid, Segovia, Seville and Cordoba) apparently did.
