Try going into properties (by right clicking on the BF2 exe file or its shortcut) via the games executable; once the properties window is open click on the compatibility tab then select Win XP service pack 3

Hopefully that should fix the issue.

To anyone complaining about the loading crash for textures, another solution (which is working in most cases) is to rise the video setting to "high". It will lower the screen dimension to 1024x728, but the maps will load perfectly after that.
