Multi Theft Auto (MTA) is an open-source software project that adds full on-line gaming support to Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas PC game, in which this functionality is not originally found. It is the first open-source modification that adds a highly customizable network play element to a commercial closed-source single-player PC game. Developed as an experimental piece of software for earlier Grand Theft Auto series, Multi Theft Auto has become an advanced multiplayer platform for gamers and developers. Our software provides on-line gaming for dozens of players running user-generated gameplay content and scripts through a Lua virtual machine, and is freely distributed under the GPLv3 license.
It's this time of the year - time for a fresh news update!

We are proud to announce that our top mod - Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas has passed over a million downloads since its initial release in August, 2009. The majority of these downloads are from our latest version - 1.0.4, counting close to half a million downloads.
It is also worth to note that we had over 3200 simultaneous players today, at 17.00 UTC, which sets a new player count record for our mod.
In other news, we have recently livened up our forums a little, by opening a new multilanguage section. We hope that it will make it easier for our fans from all around the world to become more involved in our big MTA community.
As for the upcoming MTA: San Andreas 1.1, since our last update we made some improvements to the scripting engine, and added new functions such as: get / setWaterColor, is / setElementFrozen, set/get/resetFogDistance, get/set/resetRainLevel and more. We also added support for custom animations.
You can find rest of the changes in our Commit log.
There also have been some nice MTA gameplay videos made by our fans. You can check them out right here:
Last, but not least - please do not forget to vote for us in the MOTY awards!
