Good thing he died in the snow...SPOILERS!
The Officer is the good guy :P Its the Military Police officer who repremands the unit and is the catalyst for all their troubles who is the 'bad guy'. You know, the one for punishes them to mine-clearing duties and then they have to fight off a tank platoon, and then trek through the snow with no chance of rescue.
