So this is the current roster for the Holy Roman Empire and it's Duchies! We might flesh things out even more at a later point too.
Looks amazing! You guys have done a lot of great work so far! But I do have one small quibble: Isn't the imperial eagle supposed to be double headed?
The Reichsadler is double headed but I'm pretty sure that it didn't become the HRE's arms until the 1300s. Given that I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that at the game start date, that the Hoenstaufens are emperors, then the eagle the HRE uses is in fact single headed, the sigil of the Hoenstaufen dynasty.
You seem to be right. Upon further checking yeah it looks like the double headed eagle came along with the Hapsburgs. Also, I wonder where the "Holy Roman Empire" faction itself will be centered? It seems much of Germany is going to be occupied by the individual duchies and principalities that made up the empire. Not leaving much room for the emperor himself... which I suppose is technically accurate.
i could imagine it being a bit like the Empire in Warhammer... the emperor only starts with his belongings and then has to conquer or conferderate with the others
personaly i hope for Landsknecht mercenaries
It looks like they've already got Swiss Pikemen and Genoese Crossbowmen. Landsknechts will almost certainly have to be added to the mercenary roster! One would hope at least. It would be interesting too to see if the technological research could unlock various mercenaries and make them available for recruitment to show the progression of time. After all the Landsknechts came much later in the Medieval period perhaps early Renaissance if I'm correct. It wouldn't make much sense for them to show up much earlier than that.
the first ones came by 1487 but imho this is something acceptable as in how they made some later units available in Attila in What ifs for more variety... especially since they were an important part in Empire Armies
if we get them (which i hope) i hope we wont only get the Pikemen but also the "Verlorner Haufen (Medieval IIs "forloorn Hope") and/or dedicated Doppelsöldner
The landskantch did not arrive until 1500 approximately as good said age of Chilvary mod of Ageo of Empire 2 were the answer to the formations of Swiss pikemen but that was a little before the Italian wars on the other hand there are many other options like the auxiliaries cumans, Barabante's lancers that at the time of the game had great fame, there were also other units, in the fourteenth century in Germany there were several bands of minor knights which created sort of orders to fight against the principalities which served the best poster an example of the Italian free companies. What disappoints me a little is that I have not even seen ministerials they were supposed to be a kind of servants who served as cavalry units among other functions something typical of Germany and on which the nobles and the emperor relied heavily to former their armies, all this according to German Armies in Midleage 1000-1300, and its second part 1300-1500 by Osprey.
No Margraviate of Brandenburg?
I'm pretty sure the Pomeranian faction will probably take up the North German/ Baltic coastline area of the map. Or perhaps Brandenburg will be added later on.
I hope it gets added. The Margraviate existed during this time period after all.
I would hope so too.
This mod is getting better and better, looking forward for the campaign to coop!
You should be reward for this
Duchy of Lorraine ?
Great work, cant wait for more ! :)
Dicks out for Iberian being fully playable.
keep up the good work.
Looks great! Any chance of Zwiehander units?
a little out of the timeline but I really hope there will be!
And where is bohemia??
My thoughts, lol, but bohemia ain't a duchy. It's a kingdom. It actually became a hereditary kingdom in 1212AD.
C'mon Guys, we need a campaign....
I love that my province of Brabant is in this mod! Great job guys!
where are the gothic knights ?
the gothic knights were only knights in gothic armor, if you check carefully each independent faction once they reach the late period their knights acquire it which is more logical and more accurate
I love the idea they have about the HRE so technically one of the objectives or options of the German duchies is to become emperor or will it be due to a matter of points similar to how the popes were chosen or positions in the Roman Senate in Rome: Total War
