Doesn't work for me with currrent Steam HL version (Win10). Always shows "Debug assertion failed!" message, can't even close the window properly, had to kill the process. Tried with Xash3D, launched, but got different interface/controls problems, unplayable also.
Worked fine for me on the Steam HL version, not sure what the issue is on your end.
I don't know, I see Visual C++ assertion error with any map I'm trying to start. Maybe you have something like specific files installed on you PC which prevent this error for you. But for me there is no chance to start it properly.
