Currently the news are coming around a bit fast^^
FXD|CWF has implemented fully functional Distance Fog in our own OpenGL Render.
It smoothly fades out Objects in distance, it also saves poly count and allows much better Terrain/Outdoor Levels and Performance.
Here's one shot testing Distance Fog in Deck16 II :
