i think you need to lower that hunger bar put it i some place below or make new bar. + make a place where you could build by searching for equipment. also if you make it possible then make that you can put all food,water,equipment,weapons etc in save house.
Maybe instead of finding food in trucks just make it a pickup.
You can by it, find it or make it.
Loot houses by going to a yellow icon and then theres a pause and then you appear outside the house with either loot or no loot.
Maybe thirst could be added and make both of them take longer...
Hunger 3 ingame days...
Thirst 1.5 ingame days...
until they are empty...
Or just add a realistic option to the freerome???
Also when is the next update?

The new exploration mode is awesome anyway.

Nope, the Exploration mode is a new game mode along with the realistic mode. I'm still considering scrapping the realistic mode.
In the realistic mode you could put a temperature system, thirst, visibility of zombies, level of sound that you produce and factions.
Will be very realistic.
I think removing the unlimited ammo for the pistol would be better for realistic mode
