Jurassic Rage is an episodic, team-based, dinosaur infested modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. We are undertaking the challenge to incorporate fun gameplay with a realistic world and an evolving storyline into one well-tested and balanced package released every 30 days. Every month a new version will be released, each one with as many new features as possible, exposing new story plots and allowing you to experience them ingame. Fun and gameplay are top priority in JR:Evolution, therefore if some element isn't fun enough, we'll keep working on it until it will be good enough. Your feedback is invaluable to us and we will consider any and all ideas you post. Jurassic Rage merges single-player and multiplayer. We have multiplayer gametypes that can be played like missions in a single player game, except that you can play them on any map that supports it, not just one.

To our community,

We've switched. Half-Life 2 couldn't hack the sort of things we had in mind. Cries of "we need more juice!" could be heard from our laboratories. Our local yoda suggested a new kid on the block. "Unreal 3, they call him. Some say he's a monster, but I think he's got what it takes."

Saying goodbye to Half-Life 2 wasn't pretty. She put up a fight; headcrabs, barnacles, you name it, she threw it at us. But we prevailed, and now we're going to bring you a mod of unspeakable, dinosaur-oriented entertainment.

The following media is just a small selection from a long list of new media on our website.

Some high poly dinosaurs modeled by Evil Smiley. We really mean high poly. These things could burn a hole in your CPU.

https://www.m3tz.net/media/t-rex_th.jpg https://www.m3tz.net/media/spino_th.jpg

Some high poly weapon models by F-22 raptor.

https://www.m3tz.net/media/spas12_th.jpg https://www.m3tz.net/media/mk23hp0lr_th.jpg

And here is a song created by Esben Kramer.

What's not here was some video footage of our alpha build. We really wanted to put it here, because it was rather neat, but we had some technical difficulties (or, if you'd prefer, someone fell asleep instead of working...)

Thanks,
Jurassic Rage
(N.B. Our new programmer being called Switch is actually a complete coincidence. Really.)

a few of those aren't played online but dang they are great.

Source is not the best for mods. But you are stupid, so you woudn't know. Cheapy, if Unreal Engine 3 doesn't have OpenGL support, then there is little a mod team can do about it. And I'm sure that Unreal Engine 3 is only for DirectX. I know that OpenGL is good enough for it, but if Epic don't add it, I'm pretty sure a mod team are going to have a hard time porting DirectX specific code over without access to the source.

Unrealtechnology.com wrote:
Unreal Engine 3 is a complete game development framework for next-generation consoles and DirectX9-equipped PC's, providing the vast array of core technologies, content creation tools, and support infrastructure required by top game developers.

I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.

nice dinos, but making a detail-map in zbrush off in my opinion. geometry-detail is good to model in a high-poly model but a detail-map is better to be done with 2d applications where you have better control. without the detail-map attempt they would look way better.

Did you guys use ZBrush for those dinosaurs? They look great.

Indeed, probably ZBrush! Anyway, HL2 can't handle the dinosaurs indeed and Unreal 3 can. Thing is now... Can you hold your mod togheter without any builds or testing going on for more then 7 months? Because Unreal Tournament 2007 is released at the end of 2006 and I expect it to be delayed untill Februarie or even April 2007. Can you hold your team togheter untill then? I doubt it... Unless you put this mod into hybernation but even then the team will fall apart as other cool mods for HL2 and other released games will attract their attention.

And yes, that is Zbrush. :) Glad you like it, and thanks for your support guys - appreciated!

Bad move. UT2K4 is terrible with mods. Not that you can't make em, but they don't live very long! Only popular UT2K4 mod was RO and it is nearly dead on UT2K4 now (before the Source version).

Glad to see a UT2k4 version coming, and it would have been a lot better if you guys would have gone UT2k4 first, so you could have competed in the Make Something Unreal contest, but oh well, you didn't have the Source engine to mess around with at that time.

Good luck to you guys though, and we'll miss you on the Source modding scene!

Only popular UT2K4 mod was RO and it is nearly dead on UT2K4 now

the reason RO isnt popular any more is because it had a retail relese, everyone split to get those extra that were included in the reatil relese, and there is no source versio9n of the mod, it was relesed on steam using the unreal engine 2.5.

Those dinos, and the hand models range from 1.5 to 3+ million polygons each (that's quads too, zbrush works better in quads, so double that for actual triangle count). I'm glad you like them, I worked really hard on them, and not bad for my first zbrush models EVER. :)

And the model's polycounts can be handled in UT2k4, we have a working alpha with models in it. :)

it has so much potential, sure the regular SP gets boring but then you can go play the many mods made for it.

the engine may seem out dated but man modders make it happen :D

(mac support?)

I can't say for sure yet on the mac, I'm sure we'll try, but no promises.

It is possible to combine a higher polygon model and a detail-map into a single normal map providing an insane amount of detail. :)

Before RO was released on steam there was only 150+ active players the 2nd best mod was air buc and only had average 50+ players. So really UT2K4 mods are dead.

zBrush's projection master allows for some extremely detailed modeling. www.zbrushcentral.com check out some of the stuff created there if you don't believe me.

Sorry, I'll just clear that up. It may have sounded like I'm an official source, I'm not, but I'm pretty sure these guys don't have enough of the Unreal Engine 3 source to add OpenGL support to an engine that is DirectX 9/10.

impossible, opengl is versatile enough to support every new crappy thing the ue3 offers
