This ZIP file contains the files necessary to setup a Jailbreak: Source 0.6 Server on Windows. The description below contains a guide to setting up a server on Windows using SRCDS. An Orange Box mod differs from the usual setup of Source Mod Server.
Below is a guide to setting up an SRCDS based Jailbreak: Source 0.6 server.
1: Install SRCDS
SRCDS is a stand alone dedicated server, it doesn't run through Steam. So grab yourself the Windows version of the HLDSUpdateTool from SRCDS (sorry, this is windows only for now, once we've got a Linux server running, we'll do another post) and save it somewhere.
Once it's downloaded, run the tool and go through the installation process. You'll need to install it to somewhere on your server (or home computer for testing), and in a location without spaces in the folder name (e.g. C:\SRCDS\ or C:\Servers\SRCDS\).
Once it's finished installing, go to Start; Run and type cmd which opens a command prompt and enter the following:
C:
cd srcds
hldsupdatetool
This gets the latest version of the HLDSUpdateTool which is used to download the server files. You then need to type the following into the same command prompt:
hldsupdatetool -command update -game "orangebox" -dir C:\srcds\
This step can take a while depending on the speed of your connection as it's downloading all the files it needs from Valve's servers.
Once that's finished you'll have all the files you need, but there are a few other steps needed to get the server working.
2: Move HL2 Directory
The next step is to open the SRCDS directory and inside you'll find two directories, one called "orangebox", the other called "hl2", move the "hl2" directory into the Orange Box directory and overwrite any files it asks you about.
3: Copy the mod files
Copy the Jailbreak directory into the "orangebox" directory, so it sits beside the "hl2" directory.
Finishing Up
At this point the server should be good to go, so the final step is launching the server, which can be done on the command line with:
srcds.exe -console -game Jailbreak +map jb_abalos +maxplayers 16
You could create a batch file with that code in for easy server launching too!
So there you go, nice and easy, if a little time consuming!
can we just use these files to set it up with the Source Dedicated Server instad of SRCDS (bcz after all it's the same thing if you start it with -console ; but it is Steam dependant). Thank you
Yes you can :)
hey, I have a little problem with the server set up, SRCDS keep on crashing =( . I've copy pasted the "Jailbreak" folder in Steam/SteamApps/<my_account>/Source Dedicated Server/ .
The first time I launched it, using the Steam GUI, I saw Jailbreak: Source 0.6 in the game box, but when I launched it, it crashed, looking under details of the crash of SCRDS (I am using Windows 7), the cause of the error was datacache.dll).
I tested another time, but from that first launch I didn't enev have an error message, it just starts loading then dissapears...
Using the console command doesn't help either. Here was my test command line: -console -Jailbreak -map jb_woodneck -insecure -port 27015
Still the same, the SCRDS cmd box appear for a quarter of a second then dissapear...Any ideas? Thank you
Hi Awesome Ninja,
Can you give me some more details on how you've got your server setup? Is it running SRCDS from a command line, or are you using the Source Dedicated Server from within Steam?
If you're using SRCDS from a command line, have you downloaded the Orange Box base using SRCDS? If so, have you moved the folder HL2, into the root directory of orangebox? So it's next to Jailbreak? This is a very important step.
Other things to check are the existance of the Valve.rc file inside the CFG folder.
ok, well, I am using the Source Dedicated Server WITHIN Steam for now, because it is the same thing as SCRDS except that it is launched through Steam and I don't need to DL all the Orange Box files again (I could also simple use GCF Extractor too xD). So far, I just wanted to do a test launch of the server. I already had my JB 0.4.1 server set up a while ago, that I didn't used anymore for quite a while, so what I simply did, is that I deleted that old jailbreak version server from the Steam/SteamApps/<my_account>/Source Dedicated Server/ , and replaced by the new JB 0.6 server. After restarting my PC, and tryed again to relaunch the server through the Steam GUI version of Source Dedicated Server, once again I had the error caused by "datacache.dll" . Launching it using the advanced launch command doesn't work either. Just to be sure, as a test command line, I set it to:
-console -game Jailbreak -map jb_woodneck
Even as simple as that it keep on crashing. I remember that when I had JB 0.4.1 I didn't had any problems of this kind, so it seems weird to me. Anyways, to be 100% sure, I will re-install the Source Dedicated Server tool, and try again for JB 0.6. I'll test it as soon as I get back from work. Thanks
Hmm... Yeah let know how it goes, and I'll try to help out.
