Israeli Defense Force: Fight for Independence is a Total Conversion modification for the PC game Battlefield 2 (A.K.A. BF2). What we aim to achieve with this mod is to immerse the player into the historic wars involving Israel, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan, which are the 6-Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War. The player will be able to play as a common soldier, crewmember, or pilot in these wars. The mod will feature historically accurate equipment such as the famous Russian AK-47, the fearsome SO-4050 bomber, the menacing IS3 and M48 tanks, and much, much more. Also, the maps will recreate actual battles that happened in these wars, to complete a historically-accurate and immersive modification. IDF:FFI is also a member of the acclaimed cooperative gaming studio Black Sand Studios.

A few source call it that. Here is a little more history. October 6 was chosen for several reasons. The speed of the water current and the tide were optimal for a crossing the canal, and for most of the night there was a full moon, facilitating bridge construction. The date coincided with Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. This was an important factor in choosing October 6 for an attack; Jews fast on that day and much of the Israeli army would be demobilised.
October 1973 also coincided with the month of Ramadan in the Muslim Calendar, which meant that Muslim soldiers would be fasting. It was in Ramadan that the Muslims won their first victory at the Battle of Badr in the year 634. Operation Badr was chosen by Egyptian commanders as the codename for the assault.

Description

“I definitely don’t think that there are any winners in war. There'll be someone who loses more, someone who loses less, but there are no winners in wars, and that’s something which has stayed with me since 1973.” Yoram Dori, 600th Israeli Reserve Armoured Brigade.

We take a moment today to remember the Yom Kippur War, which is also know as the Ramadan War, or October War or simply known as the 1973 Arab–Israeli War. The war was fought by the coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria against Israel from October 6 to 25, 1973.
I was doing some research for our mod and came across this very good documentary by Al Jazeera about the War in October. I would highly recommend it if you are interested in the conflict. Youtube.com
I included a clip from the documentary that I found to be very touching and very true. Please enjoy it and take a moment to honor all those who have suffered and sacrificed in wars.
