Israeli Defense Force: Fight for Independence is a Total Conversion modification for the PC game Battlefield 2 (A.K.A. BF2). What we aim to achieve with this mod is to immerse the player into the historic wars involving Israel, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan, which are the 6-Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War. The player will be able to play as a common soldier, crewmember, or pilot in these wars. The mod will feature historically accurate equipment such as the famous Russian AK-47, the fearsome SO-4050 bomber, the menacing IS3 and M48 tanks, and much, much more. Also, the maps will recreate actual battles that happened in these wars, to complete a historically-accurate and immersive modification. IDF:FFI is also a member of the acclaimed cooperative gaming studio Black Sand Studios.

Description

Here we have our Bofors L/70 40mm AA gun used by the IDF. It is a modernized version of the bofors gun used in WWII.

The original bofors L/60 40 mm gun, often referred to simply as the Bofors gun, was designed in the 1930s. It was one of the most popular anti-aircraft systems during World War II.

In the post-war era the original design was not suitable for action against jet powered aircraft, so Bofors introduced a new model of significantly more power, the 40 mm L/70. The L/70 was a totally new design, with a more powerful shell, longer range & higher fire rate. Additionally the turret was modified to be power-laid for faster response.

The L/70 was accepted as the NATO standard anti-aircraft gun, and was soon produced in the thousands and is still used today. Israel used both the orginal L/60 model and the more advanced L/70 model. The L/70 model could also be guided by radar and is extermely deadly to low flying aircraft. The IDF example we show here also has a projectile velocity sensor at the end of the barrel. We are als working on a new shell ejection effect for the bofors.
