Overview HEAT is a team-play oriented tactical shooter set in a modern and urban environment realized on the source engine. We try to give the game a good mix between realism and gameplay, although HEAT is going to contain more realism than most modifications, which call themselves realistic. The weapon handling is very important for a shooter, so we will stick to a proven concept, yet add our own touch with a realistic aiming system: Shooting from the hip is inaccurate, but one can use the iron sight or a scope for highly accurate shots. While sprinting, aiming is not possible at all. Crouching increases the accuracy, while moving decreases weapon control. The weapon damage is not as in real life, where one hit incapacitates you. But a player can't take many hits, until he dies. The movement system gives the player many opportunities to use the surroundings to his advantage, e.g. lean around corners, open doors slowly or climbing on boxes, roofs and over fences, but he will also...

As for weapons, ecks has been working among other things on a Colt M4a1 and some animations for it. However we are still looking for someone to skin it - please get in touch if you want to do so!

The last three months Vaarscha has been busy working on the map canal which nears the completion now - about time for some media, right?

Awsome! I've always thought about how cool it would be do to be able to swing the weapons around like that. No joke. I'm watching this mod for that sole purpose now. Please release a video showing it off :D

Do you hold a button when you move your gun? Or how do you look around instead of just moving your gun? Seems a little odd.

They don't need to do that. You can just move your gun around like usual, only without it being fixed or whatever. Am I right?

thanks for the comments :)

We'd love to release a video, but unfortunalety we don't have any skinned weapons yet... and we don't want to show off unfinished stuff. Basicly any help, if professional, is wanted!

Anyway, it works like this: You can move your weapon by some degrees to the right or left, up or down - just like your arms would move the gun in real life. But after a certain point, you will start moving your body as well, and this is when you move your view/screen.
For example, if you are laying down surpress fire into a room, you are probably not going to move your body but only the gun, but when you are turning directions, you'll first move the gun a bit and then the body as well. You'll get used to it pretty fast.
For accurate shots you want to use Iron Sight or a scope anyway...

The whole thing isn't finished yet, the coders are working on improvements like collision detection for the weapons (guns sticking through doors will be history and other cool stuff is going to work as well). But, as I said, it's beeing worked on and it's not officially confirmed yet so *psssst* ;)

I totally forgot that OPF did that. Kinda. This way sounds more realistic and it doesn't use a crosshair :D

Is this the same HEAT mod that was from Call of Duty?

no, there was only a "heat of battle" mod for Call of Duty, no HEAT ;)
