Dark Skies is a total conversion mod that aims to recreate the original story of Half-Life 2 while keeping a fresh feel from the other mods doing the same thing. Almost every thing will be redesigned to have our own touches but still resemble Valve's old concepts. Dark Skies will contain many new enemies, new gameplay and dark and desolate levels.

Here's some gameplay we'd like to incorporate in Dark Skies.
  • Climbing - Throughout Dark Skies we plan to implement areas where the player is forced to climb on things other than ladders. This will come in the form of using your ice axe to scale icy cliffs, or using the pipes running along the walls of the AirEx reactor as makeshift ladders that lead in more than two directions. Similar gameplay may also be in the citadel.
  • Drivable Missiles - The FIM-92 Stinger will fire a missile that the player guides through a camera on its tip. This will set the player for gameplay involving taking out or dodging the HK-70 (anti-missile turret for those who don't know).
  • Missile Defense - The player gets to set up HK-707's as you do with the floor turrets in Nova Prospekt.
  • Stealth - You get the idea.
  • Scavenging – Other than looking for ammo, health
and power, this will be used while under water around Kraken Base. The player
will have to gather oxygen tanks and power to keep from freezing.
  • Obstacles - This will tie in with stealth as the player must sneak around Particle Storms and Hydras.

The first thing I have to say is about the stealth: yes, yes, yes. I have nothing more to say about it. The climbing sounds like a great idea to make the environment look more interesting, and it will probably be awesome to have some climbing puzzles in the Citadel. However, you need to make it clear in the game that the climbable objects are climbable. I have no opinion about the missiles nor the scavenging.

Climbing- Yes.
Drivable missiles- Yes (By the way,you know that stinger is that kind of missile which needs to be focused on an airborne target before shooting?)
Missile defense-Not sure
Scavenging-Nope,just no
Obstacles-yes
Stealth-YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS.

Yes to everything, but missile defense I'm not sure about. Missile Defense would be cool, but if it is like the gameplay in CoD, then that would be the most boring part of the mod. A big NO on scavenging.

I think that the controllable rockets would be too much. And also - swimming around water to find power and airtanks is boring. I really like the idea of makeshift ladders that can go in other directions. Scavenging is something thats in HL and HL2 is about. You look for dropped loot like healthkits and ammo. But something more? I don't know, if the story gives a good reason to pick it up, hell yeah. But otherwise it would be just waste of time.

The air tanks and power won't be the main thing you're swimming around for. You'll be swimming around to get some where and you'll be on the bottom of the ocean and in the arctic. But it is still just an idea, so if enough people don't like it, we won't have it. And can you explain how controllable rockets will be too much and? It won't be the only rocket launcher you have and it will only be necessary for certain situations. The other won't be controllable.

I wasn't aware that there was missile defense in CoD. Doesn't surprise me though. The missile defense in Dark Skies will be very much like how you set up the turrets to fight off tons of Combine soldiers in Nova Prospekt.

Yes, we will think of a way to make it clear that these things are meant to be climbed. Maybe Alex, or some one else could tell you the first time you come to one, but other than that, I haven't yet decided what visual queues they'll have.

If you implement more Obstacles those must be done in a great way, or they could be annoying.
Missle Defence is a good idea as long as it is a part of a level and not of the entire game, im my opinion.
Stealth is a great idea, but it is not part of the Half-Life games and it is difficult to make. I think it could fit in a level or two in city 17, in the Citadel or in Combine Factories for example. I would think twice before implementing it.
Climbing and Drivable Missiles are ok.

Stealth may have a part near the Air Exchange (maybe not though as it might be more action packed) around the Depot a maybe in the Factories during your second visit to C17. A lot of the stealth will have to do with getting around the Particle Storms, and there will only be few places with them present. As for the missile defense, it will only be in one or two levels (spread apart and each with something new to make it more fresh). One at the Weather Control - which will be more of an anti air level- and again some time in City 17 (probably on the rooftops).

Climbing yes drivable missiles yes missile defense absolutely not.stealth YESSS!!scavenging NO obstacles maybe

What's wrong with missile defense? It's not something you'll be using the entire game. I'll be more like using the floor turrets in nova prospect after having them shoot at you (in this case your missiles). And will be this thing instead Vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net
