GTA United - Wallpapers Collection
May 18, 2009 Wallpapers 1 commentFinally here it is. The official GTA United wallpapers collection in it's first version. Enjoy it!
GTA United is one of the biggest total conversions for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas ever made. Together with the limit adjustment system it is and was a major breakthrough in San Andreas modding. It uses the most modern technologies which make it possible to get a mod as big as none has been before. But not only it's size is huge, also the work behind it. It is not yet finished, but since the work on the modification started there were 2 major releases and the next milestone – version 1.2 – is currently in development...
The modification was started in April 2006 firstly just with the target to add San Andreas' ancestor Vice City next to the default game map. It did not took long when the first problems appeared. There were many game internal limits like a limited number of models you can add, just as parts of the map are not rendered when they are mapped outside of an fixed boundary. At this time modding was not very sophisticated so there was no way to bypass those limits. This is a reason why the developers decided to clear out San Andreas and replace it with the new map. However untill today no stable way has been found to add the whole map next to the original one.
It did not take long and the modification called VC2SA (Vice City to San Andreas) entrenched in the GTA modding scene and the project became well-known even in the international scene, although it was not released. But also voices became louder to convert Liberty City and finally a sister-project called LC2SA (Liberty City to San Andreas) was formed. After the union of both modifications their leaders became the heads of GTA United and today they are the last members of the original team. On April, 1st 2007 – exactly one year after the Vice City 2 San Andreas modification was announced it was ready for the first public release and finaly at 12 o'clock (AM) it was shown to the world. Two months later on June, 2nd 2007 the first public version of Liberty City 2 San Andreas was released. With the time there came smaller updates and fixes for both mods, but in general it was silent around future releases. This had a reason. In summer 2007 the leaders of the modifications –
Aschratt and decided to go future ways together and unite boths maps. It was the birthday of GTA United, which was firstly announced November, 21st 2007 to be released in April 2008 – 2 years after the birth of the modification. And finaly it came this day. Untill today it has been downloaded more than 250000 times and impressed more modders than most mods ever did before with 2 major releases as milestones (BETA 1.0 and 1.1) and a breakthrough in modding with the first mod which proved using an limit adjustment system or working paths and traffic, just as an insane script which is not yet been finished.
GTA United takes the player back to the ancestors of San Andreas: Liberty City (LC) and Vice City (VC). Both cities are combined on the map, but there is no direct way to get from one island to the other (like a tunnel or a bridge). Although some people wanted this feature to be includet it is not in the point of our interest, since this would destroy the unique look of both islands on their own. But for those wo realy want the cities to be connected there are various custom modifications. Also since BETA 1.1 there is a ferry which you can use to get from one island to the other and back. Of course you may also use a boat or swim.
The cities are orientated on their original patterns. But they are also customized on some places, to include features of the San Andreas engine, such as clothing, buying houses, tuning cars or other things. There are just a few missions yet, but it is planned to add more forming a storyline in general.
With BETA 1.1 more and more people wanted to share their hours playing GTA United with others, so the voices desireing an multiplayer got louder.
Since the modification requires more ressources than the original game it was delivered together with an tool called Limit Adjuster, which is based on an DirectX hook. Since the most important multiplayer modifications for San Andreas – Multi Theft Auto and San Andreas Multiplayer – are based on DirectX hooks, too, it was impossible to play the modification online. With version 1.2 a new Limit Adjustment system has been announced, which works different from the hook and allows the player to play simple multiplayer modifications. In 2008 the San Andreas: Multiplayer development team released a special client model for GTA United, which sets it's limits internaly new and allows the player to play online, too. Due the seperate limit adjustment system the United SA-MP client is compatible to all major release versions of the modification, including the upcoming version 1.2. However the GTA United Development team is not related into the development of this client and so it is just released as a seperate download.
Note that MTA will not work with GTA United 1.2, since MTA also sets limits internaly and those are not compatible with the ones the modification uses.
Modding is also no problem. Since GTA United on itself is just a modification you can mod it like you are used with San Andreas.
Since GTA United is a community project born and raised on GTAinside and GTA-Worldmods it is protected through exclusive rights and only downloadable on those 2 sites.
Can I join or help the team?

The summer just started - the days get hotter and hotter and before some of us also start their holidays we want to share our latest updates with you. This time we have only great news and good progress to talk about, nothing bad this time. The release of Version 1.2 is getting closer and closer since our last update, a lot of work has been done. We have got new team members aswell, and this showed us that our official request was not a mistake. Hopefully we are able to convince you to think the same way. So this will be our first point now.
Maybe it is not as large as before, but our new members brought a fresh breeze into our work. Especially in the field of scripting we have done much progress - thanks to ATP. But also we hope to be able to release some map related updates coming with an huge modelling project in the next news. If so bStyle will have done the job. Perhaps the last months were a bit confusing for you, so to make things clear, here is now the latest lineup of our team:
- Aschratt
- ColdDeath
- MAL_ONE
- ATP
- bStyle
- Robin
- Chezy
Still we could use some support in modelling, so if you are interested please let us know the usual way via Private Message (for more information see our last news from may). Let's switch over to the more interesting part...
There have been done so much that we do not even know where to start... so let's start with our DevPage. On this way we want to thank all visitors for your interest in our project. We were able to record more than 1000 visits in the first week after it has been opened for everyone. Still we try to update it whereever we can and fill it with new information about the most important updates. Those updates also build the basement for our news in future.
For example one of the first bigger annoucements which gained interest was the Lowrider meeting in Liberty City just as the Beachparty in Vice City. So in general we have now mixed some fresh ideas with stuff you already may know from San Andreas. Basicly you will be able to beg on a lowrider competition at 3 different locations in Liberty City or to dance on a beachparty in Vice City. For the moment this does not sound very spectecular, but we have planned to integrate this into different aspects of the game (such as social contacts like girlfreinds - we'll see...). Also remember that those are just some things we do to keep you busy in both cities.
Another aspect we did in scripting is the replacement of the ferry and the implementation of an flight script, which gives you the possibility to fly from one city to the other. Thereby you are also able to transport a car. One advantage for us seems to be a better integration into the storyline following some day. Also we are going back to the roots and leaving the city as authentic as possible.
Where we are at another important point. We have started to remap details and give Liberty City an more authentic look. This project is divided into 3 great steps where the last one will be an optimization of our mapping backround which also includes Vice City. We hope that this will finaly kill most of the last major bugs we are able to fix with the possibilities we have at the moment. We have done alot of research towards that and also found some other reasons for bugs which we should be able to fix. In the end we'll see if it helps. To come back to the point where we are now, we have finished step 1 for portland. Almost anything what was left out untill yet has been includet now. Details about details and athmospheric stuff. All in all about 50 new objects (around 20 generic ones) and 500 placements have been set.
Finally we also have almost finished our overall graphics update. New loadscreens and menu backrounds just as the final version of our new font are includet. So for the future we are planning to add new graffities and some new textures where this is required. There is enought work to do in this field and we all think that the result will be great. So now that's the last point in changes, but it wasn't everything we have at all!
We have done alot of research, tries and testings. One major breakthrough we had in the field of radio stations. We developed a new system which should make it possible to listen to the good old fashioned radio stations from GTA III, Vice City or even both! At the moment we are trying around with converting them during an custom setup step since we are not able to share them in our download (because of size and legality reasons). If you own GTA III and/or Vice City, you will be able to convert it's music and add it to GTA United. We have preparet a test video for you: Click.
This was just one test we did. Also we have started implementing the trains in Liberty City and the zeppelin in Vice City and even further stuff, which will be presented in the next update. We have an open ear for your requests and so we started creating some missions like races. Those perhaps will not be the only missions includet in 1.2, but we haven't yet decidet this. Indeed we have talked about plans of adding some mission tests we already did as betacontent, which perhaps may be unlocked during playing. But this is not yet sure and we were just talking about this as a good way to react on your mission requests.
Before you reach the end in reading we have prepared some picture material for you, so here you go:
So what's left to say? Almost nothing... we wish you all the best and enjoy the summer! At least we also need some free time and so we cannot say when the next news will be released, so please be patient.
All the best,
- Your GTA United Development Team.

I don't get how to install it, there's no .exe? Does this mod replace your GTA SA? Please help.
If you have downloaded the mod from the official mirrors there should be an executeable installer file.
And yes - San Andreas gets replaced. Reasons for this are all written in the description text at the top of the page.
I've never seen a mod that actually replaces the game... but this mod is one of the best mods for GTA SA. I'm trying it now.
exelent mod, but i would like to see more interiors like the casinos in venturas, gyms, also it would be cool to recreate the side missions of san andreas like trucking, delivering, pimping, valet parking, just to make some money. continue with the great work
This is what we are aiming on with the script in 1.2 ;)
And when is version 1.2 coming ?
Day X ^^
There has no release date beeing announced yet since we cannot really assess how progress is going in the future. We are all doing this in our free time and real life is what counts first, so there is no possibility to really create some static timeline.
Hey
You can't change your skin in GTA United ??
You can, but somehow savegames appear to get corrupted in version 1.1 if you run things like tuning and clothing...
Yes
