GTA United - Wallpapers Collection
May 18, 2009 Wallpapers 2 commentsFinally here it is. The official GTA United wallpapers collection in it's first version. Enjoy it!
GTA United is one of the biggest total conversions for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas ever made. Together with the limit adjustment system it is and was a major breakthrough in San Andreas modding. It uses the most modern technologies which make it possible to get a mod as big as none has been before. But not only it's size is huge, also the work behind it. It is not yet finished, but since the work on the modification started there were 2 major releases and the next milestone – version 1.2 – is currently in development...
The modification was started in April 2006 firstly just with the target to add San Andreas' ancestor Vice City next to the default game map. It did not took long when the first problems appeared. There were many game internal limits like a limited number of models you can add, just as parts of the map are not rendered when they are mapped outside of an fixed boundary. At this time modding was not very sophisticated so there was no way to bypass those limits. This is a reason why the developers decided to clear out San Andreas and replace it with the new map. However untill today no stable way has been found to add the whole map next to the original one.
It did not take long and the modification called VC2SA (Vice City to San Andreas) entrenched in the GTA modding scene and the project became well-known even in the international scene, although it was not released. But also voices became louder to convert Liberty City and finally a sister-project called LC2SA (Liberty City to San Andreas) was formed. After the union of both modifications their leaders became the heads of GTA United and today they are the last members of the original team. On April, 1st 2007 – exactly one year after the Vice City 2 San Andreas modification was announced it was ready for the first public release and finaly at 12 o'clock (AM) it was shown to the world. Two months later on June, 2nd 2007 the first public version of Liberty City 2 San Andreas was released. With the time there came smaller updates and fixes for both mods, but in general it was silent around future releases. This had a reason. In summer 2007 the leaders of the modifications –
Aschratt and decided to go future ways together and unite boths maps. It was the birthday of GTA United, which was firstly announced November, 21st 2007 to be released in April 2008 – 2 years after the birth of the modification. And finaly it came this day. Untill today it has been downloaded more than 250000 times and impressed more modders than most mods ever did before with 2 major releases as milestones (BETA 1.0 and 1.1) and a breakthrough in modding with the first mod which proved using an limit adjustment system or working paths and traffic, just as an insane script which is not yet been finished.
GTA United takes the player back to the ancestors of San Andreas: Liberty City (LC) and Vice City (VC). Both cities are combined on the map, but there is no direct way to get from one island to the other (like a tunnel or a bridge). Although some people wanted this feature to be includet it is not in the point of our interest, since this would destroy the unique look of both islands on their own. But for those wo realy want the cities to be connected there are various custom modifications. Also since BETA 1.1 there is a ferry which you can use to get from one island to the other and back. Of course you may also use a boat or swim.
The cities are orientated on their original patterns. But they are also customized on some places, to include features of the San Andreas engine, such as clothing, buying houses, tuning cars or other things. There are just a few missions yet, but it is planned to add more forming a storyline in general.
With BETA 1.1 more and more people wanted to share their hours playing GTA United with others, so the voices desireing an multiplayer got louder.
Since the modification requires more ressources than the original game it was delivered together with an tool called Limit Adjuster, which is based on an DirectX hook. Since the most important multiplayer modifications for San Andreas – Multi Theft Auto and San Andreas Multiplayer – are based on DirectX hooks, too, it was impossible to play the modification online. With version 1.2 a new Limit Adjustment system has been announced, which works different from the hook and allows the player to play simple multiplayer modifications. In 2008 the San Andreas: Multiplayer development team released a special client model for GTA United, which sets it's limits internaly new and allows the player to play online, too. Due the seperate limit adjustment system the United SA-MP client is compatible to all major release versions of the modification, including the upcoming version 1.2. However the GTA United Development team is not related into the development of this client and so it is just released as a seperate download.
Note that MTA will not work with GTA United 1.2, since MTA also sets limits internaly and those are not compatible with the ones the modification uses.
Modding is also no problem. Since GTA United on itself is just a modification you can mod it like you are used with San Andreas.
Since GTA United is a community project born and raised on GTAinside and GTA-Worldmods it is protected through exclusive rights and only downloadable on those 2 sites.

... now that the winter vacation is over it is right about time to start into the new year with showing you some progress of the modification. But first of all we hope you had a great christmas and new year's eve. We all wish you the best for the new year, especially personal luck and health. Also we want to thank you for more than 20.000 views on our DevPage.
For GTA United 2010 gets an important year. A timeline gets more and more solid and we are aiming for an huge beta test around this year ending in the long estimated release of version 1.2. A lot of things have changed the last time since we brought the last news to you over half a year ago. We want to use this announcement to brief our work of the last month and give you a short insight into the near future of the mod ending in the beta testing stage mentioned above.
Well the last month have been used to change a lot of backround stuff of the mod to get it more and more stable and in this view there is 1 milestone open which comes around with some coding work. Basicly this is uninteresting to you since we still do not know if it really helps our target. Anyway this change will be one of the last ones before the beta stage starts. But what we've done was: changing the whole ID system and reorganize it so that there is more space for adding cars and pedestriants and stuff. Also we cleaned up unused objects and merged some models. This gives us more space for further steps e.g. adding new map parts like San Andreas. Still there are to much limits blocking this plan, but basicly we got enought space to add the map.
Another important milestone is the reorganisation and debugging of the scriptbackround. We are using an not very well known way of scripting for a better source organisation which helps us to debug the script in a better way. We are able to disable and enable several parts of the script in general without removing many parts what makes it pretty easy to test the interoperation of specific parts of the script. Recreating the script was an huge step, but it also was very important and in the end we and you can only take profit from this decision. We also decidet to remove some existing parts which we didn't like so much and add new parts to approach the modification to the original game. For example we replaced the ferry by a plane script, or we have added some new scripts like the beach party and the lowrider meeting script. Also we are now using some CLEO technologies to get a better control of some parts of the game which are unsupported by native SCM. To name an example in here is a more realistic weather appearance.
The most important point which is still left open is memory manipulation. We decidet to add some stuff what was impossible for now in modding to stay on a up-to-date niveau of modding. As the first mod using the Limit Adjuster we want to continue this way. Anyway this is the most dagerous part because it causes many incompatibilities between several systems. You may have allready recognized that previous versions of GTA United crashes on many systems. This is usually caused by too much memory manipulation. With 1.2 we reduce the extern memory manipulation by introducing an experimental new technology that patches your game to fit with the modification, instead of hooking it each time you start it. The last way may be blocked by security software and we also already found some of those problems with introducing CLEO to our modification. Anyway for most of the crashes with the new versions there are workarounds. If they really work the beta testing stage will show.
One last important thing with new stuff is the new installer. We do not want to say many things about it since we already did in the previous news. Basicly it simplifies the modifications installation to an very easy level so that there should not be many problems with it.
The last weeks brought up some new interesting stuff to the modification. In the field of mapping we finished the detail remapping milestone. With Shoresite Vale the last part of Liberty City got filled with missing details and models. Now the game looks like their ancestors did. But this is just the base for what we want. We want to bring the look to a level of San Andreas. This is why there are still 2 milestones missing in here. First of all we are going to create a new seabed the next weeks. Also we are customizing some of the models (e.g. missing roofs in Liberty City). And finally we are adjusting some smaller stuff like water and weather appearance.
Also the script and new graphics have been finally added to the current internal version of the modification which brought up another internal testing version of the mod. Here you find some screenshots:
To come to an end we hope that progress goes well the next weeks. We will talk about the beta testing stage and how people can get nominated for it. We will create some bug tracking system for it and we will need a platform for comunication for the testers. But this will not happen during the next weeks since it depends on the whole progress of the modification, so please do not send us applications or personal advertisement. Of course we will inform you about this later on!
For now we wish you all the best for the new year and want to thank you for your patience and loyality.
- Yours GTA United DevTeam.

Hello guys)
Can i join your team? I can give you some help with textures and text))
HI guys
You know how trees in Liberty City look like?
ARE YOU GONNA CHANGE THEM FOR THE 3D SAN ANDREAS ONES?
Liberty City Would look Really nice with new trees. :D
Hey!
I Have a question is there gonna be a a new savehouse in Shoreside Vale in version 1.2?
Hello everybody, I'm a fan of your work on the mod for gta united Elsewhere I am waiting impatiently for the 1.2 version (I did not download the mod). I wonder if with this configuration I get a run without the mod bug too:
Graphics Card: Radeon X1650 Series
Windows Vista 2007
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU 6400@2.13 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
Type of system: OS 32-bit
Anyway thank you for creating this mod for gta fans, I admire your patience and I always followed your work.
ps: escuse me for the spelling mistake, i am French! and yes the France loves you too!
Thank you france :)
And of course the mod will run on your system. Perhaps the graphics card is a bit weak, but this should not be a problem if you set the level of details to low or medium. ;)
Hello, so after reading your message above so I go download the mod and I finished the download, but the problem is that each time he said he is DirectX 9 to be able to play. So I download DirectX 9 and it always says the same thing when I download a more recent: Directx SBK (March 2009) but its still not working so I asked if you have a solution to this problem. Thank you and soon.
Hi! I like this mod a lot, so, I will give you only one sugestion.
Do you know a mod called "BC7"?
Basicly is made of a few scripts (I think) so that you can teleport yourself, choose your character (from the ones who apear in the missions to any of the peds), choose the density of people in the streets, spawn cars, change the weather. All this options can be chosen by a single menu. I still can't place URLs so search for "gta sa bc7"
Can you do something like this or talk with the guy who created it in order to use it in your mod? I think that would be a huge improvement for the ones who play your mod to have fun. Answer, please.
Even if you don't do this, I already have to thank you for the great work you are doing.
Hey,
such a script is not very hard to create. But this will not be part of our modification since we are trying to give the player an authentic modification which leans on the realness level of San Andreas. If you want such a script there are tons of CLEO scripts like those around the internet. CLEO should be compatible with GTA United 1.1 and is a fixed part of 1.2, so you will not have troubles to customize your game as you want it ;)
Its the best mod for GTA San Andreas, But I think its more fun playing with Tommy Vercetti skin.
Yes we are going to add a storyline. For more information read the mod description ;)
