GTA United - Wallpapers Collection
May 18, 2009 Wallpapers 0 commentsFinally here it is. The official GTA United wallpapers collection in it's first version. Enjoy it!
GTA United is one of the biggest total conversions for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas ever made. Together with the limit adjustment system it is and was a major breakthrough in San Andreas modding. It uses the most modern technologies which make it possible to get a mod as big as none has been before. But not only it's size is huge, also the work behind it. It is not yet finished, but since the work on the modification started there were 2 major releases and the next milestone – version 1.2 – is currently in development...
The modification was started in April 2006 firstly just with the target to add San Andreas' ancestor Vice City next to the default game map. It did not took long when the first problems appeared. There were many game internal limits like a limited number of models you can add, just as parts of the map are not rendered when they are mapped outside of an fixed boundary. At this time modding was not very sophisticated so there was no way to bypass those limits. This is a reason why the developers decided to clear out San Andreas and replace it with the new map. However untill today no stable way has been found to add the whole map next to the original one.
It did not take long and the modification called VC2SA (Vice City to San Andreas) entrenched in the GTA modding scene and the project became well-known even in the international scene, although it was not released. But also voices became louder to convert Liberty City and finally a sister-project called LC2SA (Liberty City to San Andreas) was formed. After the union of both modifications their leaders became the heads of GTA United and today they are the last members of the original team. On April, 1st 2007 – exactly one year after the Vice City 2 San Andreas modification was announced it was ready for the first public release and finaly at 12 o'clock (AM) it was shown to the world. Two months later on June, 2nd 2007 the first public version of Liberty City 2 San Andreas was released. With the time there came smaller updates and fixes for both mods, but in general it was silent around future releases. This had a reason. In summer 2007 the leaders of the modifications –
Aschratt and decided to go future ways together and unite boths maps. It was the birthday of GTA United, which was firstly announced November, 21st 2007 to be released in April 2008 – 2 years after the birth of the modification. And finaly it came this day. Untill today it has been downloaded more than 250000 times and impressed more modders than most mods ever did before with 2 major releases as milestones (BETA 1.0 and 1.1) and a breakthrough in modding with the first mod which proved using an limit adjustment system or working paths and traffic, just as an insane script which is not yet been finished.
GTA United takes the player back to the ancestors of San Andreas: Liberty City (LC) and Vice City (VC). Both cities are combined on the map, but there is no direct way to get from one island to the other (like a tunnel or a bridge). Although some people wanted this feature to be includet it is not in the point of our interest, since this would destroy the unique look of both islands on their own. But for those wo realy want the cities to be connected there are various custom modifications. Also since BETA 1.1 there is a ferry which you can use to get from one island to the other and back. Of course you may also use a boat or swim.
The cities are orientated on their original patterns. But they are also customized on some places, to include features of the San Andreas engine, such as clothing, buying houses, tuning cars or other things. There are just a few missions yet, but it is planned to add more forming a storyline in general.
With BETA 1.1 more and more people wanted to share their hours playing GTA United with others, so the voices desireing an multiplayer got louder.
Since the modification requires more ressources than the original game it was delivered together with an tool called Limit Adjuster, which is based on an DirectX hook. Since the most important multiplayer modifications for San Andreas – Multi Theft Auto and San Andreas Multiplayer – are based on DirectX hooks, too, it was impossible to play the modification online. With version 1.2 a new Limit Adjustment system has been announced, which works different from the hook and allows the player to play simple multiplayer modifications. In 2008 the San Andreas: Multiplayer development team released a special client model for GTA United, which sets it's limits internaly new and allows the player to play online, too. Due the seperate limit adjustment system the United SA-MP client is compatible to all major release versions of the modification, including the upcoming version 1.2. However the GTA United Development team is not related into the development of this client and so it is just released as a seperate download.
Note that MTA will not work with GTA United 1.2, since MTA also sets limits internaly and those are not compatible with the ones the modification uses.
Modding is also no problem. Since GTA United on itself is just a modification you can mod it like you are used with San Andreas.
Since GTA United is a community project born and raised on GTAinside and GTA-Worldmods it is protected through exclusive rights and only downloadable on those 2 sites.
The next milestone will be version 1.2 which is planned to be a stable candidate for the final version. This means we are not concentrating on adding much stuff (Although we already did), our major goal is to get the mod run as stable as possible on nearly all modding-usual systems (game version 1.0).
(Also known as "Who are the mad guys behind this sh!t?")
There are many former members, which all contibuted their part to the whole project, but the list would simply be too long to list it here. But there goes out a great thanks to all out supporters here. Of course all former members will be added to the creditslist of the mod.

After we have spend some work into the modification the last weeks it is up to time that we are going to present you our latest progress now. The time of waiting for version 1.2 isn't short anymore, we know that and yes, still we have to put off untill the release. But still we give our best to make this modification something what players like to play and what inspires a hand full of modders to continue modding GTA at least for some months.
Unfortunately we have some bad news for you at the beginning. The second Leader of the modification next Aschratt, AMD or earlier known under the synoym Chris Bernoit has quit the project because of personal reasons and stopped his work and activities around GTA United. Also he will not be responsible for supporting modders around at GTAinside any longer. We regret his decision. It will not less leave a technical hole as it leaves a personal one, too. We had much fun together with AMD and he was a competent and integrity person. We want to thank him alot at this point. Without him, LC2SA, and with it the big cooperation with VC2SA would have never could been realised. We will not forget you!
But this doesn't mean that we give up GTA United! We will continue the work, in which we invested already so much time now. May the vision we all have in our minds get reality. We still enjoy working on GTA United, so nobody needs to scare the end of it.
However we know how serious our situation may be. To counteract our loss of membership and bring back the stability in our project we have decided to do a huge step which has never been done in the history of this project before. From now on we are officially recruting new members to join our team and work together with us on the final version. If you are interested in GTA United and got some solid basic knowledge feel free to contact us via PM, ICQ, MSN or eMail. It does not matter what your strong fields are. We are searching good people in the field of scripting, mapping and modelling (including converting of map objects). So if you've got some basic work to show us then please link to it in your application to us. This will help us deciding either you are fit for the work in our team or not. We are glad about every request receiving us and hope we can continue our work soon with some new fresh members.
But let's switch over to the latest progress. As already applied a few times officialy we are about to do the big breakthrough in game stability. After 2 months of work we finally managed it to reorganize the whole ID logic behind the game. Those new ID-ranges allow us on the one side to find and fix most of the common bugs caused by duplicates and invalid map objects. Many from now on unused objects have been removed to create space for future projects. The structure of the whole map is more clear, now. On the other side we now have more space for cars, peds and weapons. Another big step was the port of almost any San Andreas interior which we have customized or fixed (those already existed). From now on it is not hard to add new shops like barbers, tattooshops, tuning garages, gyms, clothshops, and so on.
If we are already talking about shops we could also talk about the script. This one has been overworked now and got a completely new structure, a step which was unalterable after changing the ID backround. But there are many advantages in the new structure. The sourcecode now is more flexible for changes. This makes working on the script in a team more easy. Errors and crashes can be found and fixed more easily. New missions or scripts can be simply added, but also disabled for debugging reasons. It is even possible to disable various missions to test new code directly without beeing influenced by old one. Most you will not realy get in contact with those changes, but for us it makes working much easier and we hope to fix several bugs in this way.
In the field of graphics and artwork we decidet to release a collection of wallpapers. Together with MAL_ONE we created a unique pack of ingame image material which may help you to curtail the time waiting for version 1.2. The download is available at the download section. Enjoy it!
Last but not least we also got some screenshots for you. Killerstunter kindly agreed in creating a completely exclusive NRG500 skin. It will be part of the official download and you are able to install it optional. At this point we want to thank Killerstunter for his great job. Credits go to him:
That was almost everything for this time. Perhaps you already recognized that we have updated our DevPage to the next version. Categories are gone from now on. They are replaced by so called "Threads" which we all are able to admister from the internal section. Also we can allways add updates there and upload pictures for posting. The smart start page allows you to keep an overview over the latest changes and updates. The internal area got some new great features making the mod organisation more easy for us.
Best wishes so far and enjoy some hot days,
Yours Grand Theft Auto United Team!

R u guys goin to be entering the Summer of mods and indies?
Hi,
the rules say that the mod must have been "released or received a major update within the last 6 months in order to qualify". Both we do not have... At least not in form of a new version. Although we are in a good progress anyway at the moment we will not be able to release 1.2 in the next weeks :p
Greetings,
- Aschratt.
P.S.: But hopefully we manage it to rock MOTY 2009 :)
hey aschratt i was wonderin if it was possible to place a mural of Michael Jackson around Vice City to honor him, They're wouldn't be the 80's without him. Thnk you, i would really appreciate that :)
Michael Jackson R.i.p. the king of pop 2009
MJ should rest in peace indeed, but your idea is going to far. That doesn't fit to our goal and we still have enough to do. ;)
This is a great mod! The ferry system doesn't work though...
Keep up the good work, I look forward to 1.2 :)
The ferry works well...
Anyway we decidet to search for an alternative in 1.2 (e.g. transporting a car using a plane, plus the possibility to skip the flight) since we think that the ferry and the landingbridge do not fit the feeling and the image of this mod.
Sorry, it was just a mistake on my part - the ferry works.
I saw the images of taking a flight from one city to the other, where do I go to trigger that? I tried the airport and there's nothing there to trigger it...
Sorry to be a bother, but when the final United version is released you guys should get rid of the San Andreas radio; kinda kills the ambience having Radio Los Santos playing in either city. That's another thing, have you guys considered having seperate radios stations for each city? You can't just import the stations from Vice and III because the music is licenced, but perhaps allow us to have multiple custom radio stations...
I donno, these are just random ideas from a crazed GTA fan, don't take them to seriously :D
Hey,
those plane scripts are completely new and still in development stage... They cannot be enabled ;-)
@Radio Stations: We already have plans, ideas and tests for them... for more information simply wait for the next news (I think we are going to release them at the beginning of july).
Greetings,
- Aschratt.
Please Dear Friend Make Next Version Stable So I Can Download.GR8 MOD
It is not a bad purpose of us that the game may crash and even with 1.2 we can not make sure 100 percently that the game would not crash, but we are working on the game's stability all the time and if we find some bugs or some possibility to get the game run more stable you can be sure that we are following that path... ;)
