If you get Access Violation when you start AST.exe you need to turn G-sync off in Nvidia Control panel...

where do I find this Nvidia control Panel ? I don't have Nvidia as a graphic card , I have radeon .... and there is no Radeon in control panel ... so , no ideea.

its only for Nvidia graphic cards (possible that your card doesnt even have a G-sync option)

also there should be a control panel for ATI cards also (perhaps you need to download a special program which acts as a settings menu for graphics options)

I open the Nvidia control panel but i can't find G-sync.

Where exactly is it?

That means that you don't have a G-sync monitor

Hi.
The game doesn't start for me.
I followed the instructions exactly as specified.
AST.exe doesn't work at all and when I use gothicstarter.exe and select "AST Start", I get the main menu then the game crashes when I click new adventure (after loading for a bit) I get access violation which says it's about "2.6f attempting to read from...".
Once I get the access violation my computer freezes up and I have to either sign out and re-login (to windows)or restart the PC.
I don't think I have g-sync as it doesn't show up in nvidia control panel.
Any solutions?

Also, I'm using the steam version and I just did a clean install (twice today).

Apparently the error message is "Gothic II - 2.6 (fix) has caused an access violation by attempting to read 000000h" and something (the 000000h gets mentioned again).

I have to mention this: I didn't install the microsoft directx thingy because I already have vesion 14.0.239 installed (whereas the download link in instructions.txt is 14.0.206).

So I did a new clean install and followed the instructions as specified.

This time, I also installed the vcredist from the link in instructions.txt. After getting the exact same error as above, I also replaced the directx in gothic2/data with the ones from the mod .zip.
The result is the same: AST.exe does not work at all and gothicstarter.exe AST Start gives me an access violation when I start a new adventure.

"Gothic II - 2.6 (fix) has caused an access violation error at address 000000h by attempting to "read" from address 000000h".

What I also did was install the vcredist from the .zip, I tried both the x64 and x86 parts and I get the exact same error.

Interestingly, 1. the game loads to about 70% (the red bar) then I get the crash, 2. when I click on AST Start it says , 3. when I use gothic2starter.exe and select "Gothic II NoTR" I get the same error (but also the same requiem main menu and icon and music).

Nevermind - the antivirus was blocking AST.exe (Norton) so I had to right click it, select properties then tick "unblock".

I'm posting what I get on the clipboard when it crashes at the bottom of the post.

I have tried:

>>setting as administrator and Windows XP service pack 2 to the 3 launchers in my system folder

>>tried using both launchers (gothic2.exe and gothic starter.exe) [And when using the gothicstarter.exe I select Requiem as the option]

>>went to computer properties to change the 'data execution prevention' and added the 3 launchers in the list.

>>tried both steam and retail version of Gothic II - Night of the Raven (Gold edition). Clean installs were made on different HDDs

>>tried differnt resolutions and video settings

>>disabled intro videos

>>updated video drivers

I have been trying for what it seems like a while now and havent made it to Khorinis without crashing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
