This is based on a real Cold War-era project by the excellent, although often overlooked, Yakovlev Design Bureau. Damn, they were even approached by the Lockheed Martin for some advices in making JSF F-35. The F-35 is even somewhat similar-looking to En.m.wikipedia.org
