The developer that worked on the dynamic fire in FC2 already tried that idea, and it failed terribly. After a while, the fire burned for the whole visible area, and the framerate dropped into the low single-digits. Ironically, developers usually know better than gamers when it comes to stuff like that.

but why not fix it so that it doesn't quit burning unless it's put out, or it has no more fuel left to burn?
oh, it should also get taller when it burns more grass/trees, because it acts as one body, not multiple smaller fires.
