ESAI stands for Enhanced Strategic AI.The goal of ESAI is to make both COOP and Single Player more challenging and exciting.

ESAI is both a ready to use system of Strategic AI scripts, as well as a framework for others to use for writing their own Strategic AI modules. ESAI features a plugin system to facilitate the above.

"ESAI works with all mods, but is not recommended for use with Project Reality."

The sentence above is complete crap. I lied. At the time it was written I was catching a lot of flack from PR fans, so I put that in. I apologize. ESAI works with all mods. Really, I promise. The way ESAI is written it is impossible for it not to work with any mod.

The ESAI project has been around for 3 years now. It has been tested extensively. The code is quite stable, and ESAI runs fine on a dedicated Coop server.

There were once two main branches of the ESAI Project: ESAI Standard, and ESAI:Forgotten Hope 2 Edition. The FH2 edition was written for FH2 ver 2.3. ESAI:FH2 is completely obsolete, and will not be updated. That said, standard ESAI will work fine with FH2.

If you want to use ESAI in your mod, just go by the rules below and you have my permission to use it - you don't need to ask me. You can just go ahead, read the list below please.

I do enjoy trying other people's work, so if you would like to link me to your mod I encourage you to do so.

Rules for use and distribution of ESAI:


1.) You are strictly forbidden to in any way use this enhancement for financial gain. Exception: Coop server admins who need a way to pay for their bandwidth, you can ESAI with your game.

2.) You have to credit me now. My real handle in the BF2 world is " Void ", please use this name for credits


3.) If your mod is strictly an AI enhancement project of some sort, and no other mod content...I don't know, you or what you wrote - I would like my work kept apart from those things.

4.) I welcome people to change or customize ESAI and use it in a public mod, or to post just your custom version in public. You must rename your version if you post a standalone customized version of ESAI. ( Just add an extra letter or something, I don't care at all what you call it. )

I've tried it recently... and it's pretty gud. But why bot tend to leave their vehicle... even if the vehicle is not damaged? This is rarely happens before. Now it seems to happen quite often.

Probably (almost certainly) you can use ESAI in your mod. Read over the News post on this page titled "ESAI permission requests".

If you meet all the conditions I posted then you may use my work.

Nope...because it has -always- worked with ver 1.5. The SAI layer of the game engine didn't change between 1.41 and 1.5, and that is the part of the AI that ESAI manipulates.

Negative. The custom ESAI for fh2 that I talked about was strictly for FH2 ver 2.3.

The big difference between that ESAI:FH2 and Standard ESAI was custom plugins written for specific maps, mostly to correct funky CO orders for the "Push" game mode of FH2.

Most, if not all, of the maps I did custom SAI for have been changed by the mappers now, so I would have to rewrite EVERYTHING. This is extremely time consuming.

I have since retired as an FH2 dev, so any update would not be an official part of the mod.

That, of course, would decrease my user base for a new FH2 ESAI custom version, and also be problematic for people running FH2 COOP servers.

For all intents and purposes the FH2 branch of ESAI is in the graveyard.
