I just posted an enourmous news post at the DrugWars homepage, regarding our decision to continue the development of DrugWars. Because it is far too lengthy to post here, I extracted the main points below.
Almost exactly two months ago, we announced our departure from the FarCry modding community, and from the development of the DrugWars modification for the said game. Today, after a lengthy discussion with "Sniper-X", the former co-leader of DrugWars and leader of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modification "STALKER: Theft Auto", we have decided to continue DrugWars. Though we did converse on the possibility of merging DrugWars and S:TA, and possibly even a third STALKER modification due to there similiarities in terms of gameplay, we'll announce that later if and when we come to a firm decision.
Now that we have asserted our decision to resume DrugWars, I'm sure that you are all just dying to know when it will be released. Unfortunately I cannot answer that at this point in time, because we haven't started rounding up our old members, so we do not know how large of a team we can expect to accumulate, given that we were previously always under-manned. We sincerely hope that some fellow modders from the community will come to us, willing to aid their bretheren to get back on their feet after stumbling around a bit.
In regard to the Gore Coalition that we started close to three months ago, we have concluded that it was what ultimately destroyed our mod, as we had too ambitious goals. Though we'll be writing custom blood scripts and possibly even shaders, do not expect any dismemberment support for now at least. We apologize for getting to community excited about this, and we hereby promise never to get our fan community (if there is one anymore) riled up about something that we cannot guarantee 100% to follow through with.
If we do decide to merge S:TA and DrugWars, we will probably do so on the X-Ray engine, because it can handle city environments better. That wouldn't mean, however, that DrugWars itself wouldn't appear on FarCry; merely that the combined product would not be suited for the CryENGINE. Under these circumstances, we would most likely continue to develop DrugWars for FarCry, independant of S:TA, all-the-while developing the merged game for STALKER. Doesn't make sense? Don't worry about it. We'll make sure that our FarCry-loving fans get to enjoy DrugWars.
Until next time
