Description

Description:
From a time long before the Blights, the majestic Griffons hunted and nested across the Wandering Hills of the Anderfels, the Hunterhorns and deeper within the Donarks alike, regarded as fearsome predators wherever they went. Yet these awe-inspiring creatures were in time found to be as ferocious in loyalty as they were on the hunt, and thus some amongst the ancient Orth peoples forged a powerful fraternal bond with them. When the Darkspawn came to bring plague and death to the lands, many Griffon Trainers amongst the Orth went to the newly-founded Grey Wardens, seeking to lend the Wardens hope in a world drowning in the horror of the Blight and thus taught the Wardens to bond with the Griffons. Since then, the iconic Griffons have fought alongside the Grey Wardens to crush the Blights whenever they came, frequently being relied upon to allow the Wardens to catch an Archdemon in flight, or to strike deep behind the lines of the Darkspawn, yet as centuries passed, the Griffons dwindled, and in the Storm Age, less than three centuries ago, were believed with great sorrow to be extinct, their loss symbolizing the slow decline of the Grey Wardens themselves. While the dark truth of the Griffons' near-extinction has been all but forgotten amongst the Order, a new hatching of Griffons was recently recovered from a hidden clutch of eggs in the Hunterthorn Mountains by a young Warden-Recruit, Valya, who studied the journals of Isseya, sister to Garahel, Hero of the Fourth Blight, and one of the last Griffon riders. Thus the Griffons that brought the Grey Wardens into legend live once more. Though once only numbering thirteen, they are now breeding enough that they may fly into legend once again, and remind the Darkspawn of fear and the flapping of their great wings, for even a thousand years since it has passed, their twisted race still remembers the Charge of Nordbotten.

Note: The Griffons are not available to the Wardens in the campaign until 9:42 Dragon.
