Getting Darkness to compile on Linux was not trivial, and many changes have been made to the Darkness project since 1.0 was released on Christmas. This includes making the build system more portable, removing large binaries from the repository due to Git limitations, and further optimizing and automating the build process. Most of these changes can't be seen by players, but they'll make future releases easier.
Looking forward, as a result of the push to create Linux dedicated server binaries, Darkness is now much more easily portable to Linux and OS-X. If there are any Mac or Linux gamers out there who are interested in playing Darkness, please let me know, and I'll get started on those deployments as soon as possible!
