Report RSS January Press Release

Well yet another month goes by and Darkest Hour gets a little closer to that first release. This month we're bringing you some shots of new weapons in game, two new maps for the Brits, a new armoured vehicle, a new model render and some very exciting events that happened over the last month within DH.

The first weapon we are featuring this month is the M3 Grease gun that was shown in render form over the Christmas period. This cheap but deadly little weapon has been laying down fire for around about a month in tests now and the test team are finding it hard to decide if they prefer this or the Thompson. The second weapon we have to show is the 88mm Artillery piece the model and textures for this were done as a static mesh for stock Red Orchestra but Fennich and Exocet have turned that into a lethal device capable of taking out the toughest armour.

I'm pleased to announce two new British maps this month in the form of Benouville “Pegasus” Bridge & Cagny (by Exocet & Fennich and Stalker respectively). Benouville is of course the famous action of the British Parachute Regiment who took and held a critical river crossing on D-Day. While this action has been portrayed in many video games before Exocet and Fennich have done an amazing job bringing this to life. Our second map this month is Cagny. This map should finally give the tread heads (tankers) out there something to smile about. The map has been crafted beautifully by Stalker and will give players an opportunity to test their courage in the Western allies' tanks against the mighty German Panzers.

One of the tanks that will be taking part in that battle also features in this month's press release. The M5 Stuart (Modelled by Maharzan/Tman and Textured by Aeneas2020) will be filling the role of infantry support and light armour for the allied side. Although small, lightly armed and lightly armoured the Stuart provides a good mobile weapons platform to help out allied troops or lay fire down onto hardened targets. Don't write off this little tank before you've faced one in battle.

The last piece of content we are showing this month is the Lee Enfield No.4 rifle. This rifle was the mainstay of the British and Commonwealth forces throughout much of the Second World War. Known for its reliability and accuracy the No.4 was loved by those who carried it and feared by those who faced it. The model was originally done by Garrison before being tweaked by Tman. We are looking forward to getting this model in game along with the rest of the British and Commonwealth models.

Lastly I am excited to announce that because of Darkest Hour making the top 100 in the Mod of the Year Awards at moddb the mod was featured on the AMD Gamer website. Even more exciting was the news that Darkest Hour has been picked as Mod of the Week on the German gamers site Egames.de. Along with a front page feature the article also has an in-depth interview with myself discussing team dynamics and what we hope to make of DH. The full story can be seen here Egames.de
(please not a knowledge of German is pretty essential to understanding this).

DH P.R.

I'll leave you with news that over the last month the DH team has been very aware that people are wishing that we would release sooner rather than later. With this in mind we have taken a stock list of every piece of content we have completed (or past the clay model stage in development) and we will be making some announcements regarding our plans next update. Until then take care to everyone and thank you for your continued support.
