I really wish I could play this mod, but after trawling through the internet and trying every fix imaginable, I still cannot even load the game. Before I installed the mod, I checked and the original game runs perfectly. After installing the mod, Ares will not run at all. It loads the cmd prompt and then it says that the main executable file has stopped working. Loading the game from RA2MD.exe now creates a weird mix of YR and D-Day but nothing works when i try to play a Skirmish game and it has a lot of weird string error text instead of the map names etc.

I did exactly as the instructions say:

-Installed RA2 and YR, patched to 1.001.
-Installed Ares with all its files.
-Installed the mod and the 3.7b patch.

If it helps, I am running on Windows 8 64-bit and the version of RA2 and YR that I am using is from The First Decade pack. I have every single .exe file in the folder set to "Run as Administrator" and compatibility mode is set to "Windows 98/ME". The .bat file doesn't even work when I try to "Run as Administrator", only when I use it normally.

I am actually at my wits' end.

Please help!

Try downloading the latest version of Ares, you may also need to install Visual Studio 2013, you will need the x86 version even tho you have a 64 bit system.

You can also ask for assistance on the Ares forum.

Thank you for your reply Mig!

I have done as you have suggested: VS 2013 downloaded and installation repaired and I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Ares (0.9). Now when I run "RunAres.bat" it says "Syringe cannot be run just like that. Please run a Syringe control file!"

I checked the Ares problems section and a topic was opened but from what I read, the problem was never solved (at least it doesn't look like there is an obvious solution to the problem). Any ideas?

It might be that your anti-virus/firewall is blocking Syringe from working correctly (Ares works by hacking RA2 to add new code for mods to use, some anti-virus programs see this as a threat but its completely safe). You can find more information about this in the Ares documentation.

I do use BitDefender, but I've just tried shutting it off and it still doesn't work; it still says that I need a control file.

I checked around the forums for Ares and apparently Control files are no longer used by Ares...

I would suggest making a topic in the Ares forum asking for help as I'm unsure what else to suggest.

Okay, thanks for your help anyway!
